Even within Europe. For instance, when was the last time a footy nation like England had a real world class goalie? And they are not alone with that.

Picking England as the one nation of all who has constant troubles in goal might lead to a whole new topic.

I think they only need a draw to go through if my calculations are right.
Even better. I know nothing about soccer. Should they play defensive and play for a draw or would that be risky if they make a mistake, it could cost them. Or just play like they've been playing (preferably like they play in the 2nd half).

You are correct. With a tie Japan is at 5.

If they tie Poland, the most Poland can get is 4.

Colombia or Senegal can get a max of 6. But not both. If last game is a tie between them, then Senegal has 5, and Colombia a max of 4.

So Japan is through with a tie. Same goes for Senegal actually.
