The level of denial in here is laughable. Russia was soundly outplayed. A clearly legitimate five minute penalty in the first period did not force Russia to play like crap for most of the second and third periods. Complain about shot totals if you like, but anyone watching that game could see that Canada had far more quality scoring chances, even sitting back for parts of the game. It's all irrelevant now though, these totals won't carry over into the next games.

In both cases, the American ref made the call. He gave Nichushkin the major, while he gave MacKinnon a minor. Each team has a right to expect consistency, and that the same offense be penalized at the same level.

Those hits weren't even close to the same thing. But again we will see. If he is suspended.

I really don't want to focus on Nichushkin situation, what's done is done. The penalty was a major factor since it resulted in two goals but Canada played better. Should be a good wake-up call for Russia.

Yet we can spend 5 days on Jenner, 3 on Camara and 2 on Lipon?

My point was using shots as an indicator of who dominated a game when Russia is one of the games is irrelevant. Scoring chances is a better indicator.

Canada had more scoring chances today and was the better team.

So essentially, Canada dominating the shots did indicate that Canada dominated the game and you can see that by looking at other stats too...

I am probably the most biased Canadian fan that has ever lived, but this comparison even made me chuckle. I don't think if things were reversed I could even type that and pretend to be serious. I hope you are not either.

Nichushkin was given 2 minute but then based on Wotherspoon bleeding the refs decided to change to 5 minute. TSN even showed 2 minute penalty on the screen, that means the ruling was given by the ref at the time.

it wasn't based on bleeding, it was based on the fact that Wotherspon was hurt, hurt besides the blood he had from the earlier incident. He went to the dressing room for the rest of the period not because he had a boo boo on his face :help:

Wow what an impressive win. I was following the game with the IIHF live ticker. Was Canada as dominant as the score and stats? I have it DVR'd at home to watch tonight but I couldn't help myself from knowing the outcome. Looks like moving Drouin to the top line worked out well.

Whats amazing is no Canadian fans are calling for a suspension, yet on any big hit from Canada half the posters here are calling for his head on a pike. Funny how that happens.

I would say Canada was outplayed at the beginning of the game, weathered the storm and got some key saves from Subban, then the major penalty on Russia changed the tide. Two pp goals, a back and forth second period, and a complete shut-down in the third was the rest of the story.

Canadian forechecking was the major difference. The puck was down low in the Russian end for a good portion of the game, whereas the Russians had no real sustained attack. Lots of flashy end-to-end rushes, but nothing sustained or "inside". Mostly stoppable, outside shots.

You barely won and you were outshot. The Amricans are red hot right now and if they keep their momentum, they shoul be in the semis - no problem.

Bolded are the only words that really matter.

Also, funny how when it comes to another team outshooting Canada it's such a big deal, but Canada more than doubles Russia in shots and it's not a big deal at all. #doublestandards

Alas. I totally agree with your review.

Canada's lucky not to be 0-4 and in the relegation round. Every advantage they've had so far has been a combination of freakish luck, coincidence, performance-enhancing drugs, and spiking the opponents' water bottles with Cialis while placing various well-endowed women in rinkside seats.

Also, Drago beat Rocky.
