But Wirtz's incredible wealth and status is only part of the story. The purpose of this book is to document Bill Wirtz's repeated acts of corruption, criminality, and lies. Taken as a whole, the book reveals an undeniable and startling pattern of corruption and lawlessness, including repeated violations of the antitrust laws, bribery, political payoffs, perjury, theft, collusion against NHL players, and monumental greed. For many readers, the exposure of Wirtz's criminality will not be a big surprise. Few businessmen anywhere have as bad a public reputation as Bill Wirtz, and thus much of what I reveal in this book will only serve to confirm what many already suspect about the man. But even if I am preaching to the converted, I hope the specific details of lawbreaking and corruption will serve to solidify the suspicions that already exist about Wirtz. It's enough if this book simply confirms that what people "know" about Wirtz is, in fact, true.

How can you be a Partner or Support Owners like this ..

Well, since the players collude against the owners, I'm not terribly concerned. I also don't suspect that this kind of digging has been done into the 700-plus morally upstanding citizens lacing up the blades. Just wondering...who was the last owner nailed for DWI?

Or dating underaged tennis players
Or linked to the Russian mob
Or trying to have people killed
Or blah blah blah....

"stealing from his 'niece's' trust fund, & collusion against the NHL players ..

Is that morally better or worse than DWI?

Making this dispute about the morals of either side is a lose-lose proposition. Neither one can claim the high ground.

Thats why the NHLPA should negotiate safe guards against cheats like this.

That's why they keep offering a salary floor.

I wouldn't think Bill Wirtz is great friends with Bettman. Bettman has said more than once publically that Wirtz' Blackhawks do not qualify for revenue sharing

Wirtz and Bettman are far from friendly, particularly after their pissing match last year ober Wirtz's refusal to pay the remainder of Mike Smith's contract. Bettman one that match, by the way.

Yes, it really needs to stop.

That book is not "available at bookstores everywhere", I know a self-published piece of junk when I see one. After reading more about that guy's background, he has zero credibility. It also makes me wonder if this is just a joke when one of the chapters is titled "A Note on Satire" & he's known for publishing a satirical Blackhawks program. Hmmm

[my assertion that ESPN is socialist]

If that was true wouldn't they play more hockey?

ESPN has alwasy been pro-state, pro-labor and anti-owner. They've promoted Title IX like it was a gift from on high, which it certainly is not. That, to my mind, is the crux of their 'socialism,' and I'm probably using that word in a way that you're not familiar with.

Making shrewd economic moves in terms of programming (playing things that draw higher ratings) does not negate the years of promoting labor at the expense of ownership. Marketing Marxism has been profitable for them, and my hatred of them stems from that basic hypocrisy.

Yeh.. try again. The list with Steinbrenner at #1 wasn't a writer's list, but a write in list.. by the fans. But then again, because they don't agree with you the opinion must be worthless, right?

Exactly! *sigh*

I labelled it an ad hominen attack, not an argument.

I question the timing of this report though. Why now? If not to make the NHL look bad in the minds of their viewers.

They have an obvious bias. For fairness' sake, why didn't they publish the results of their "Who's the Greediest Player in Pro Sports Poll?"

I wonder if that one even exists.

But, you see, under Anti-Trust law it's legal for labor to collude, ne it's encouraged, but the same metric cannot be applied to management for some strange reason....

Am I the only one who sees the disparity here?
