K, donno if this has been done, But I was wondering what everyone would do if they were presented with the oppurtunity to create a dream team. Any player throughout history, at there prime could be used. 4 lines, 6 defensemen, 2 goalies. the complete team, unfortunetly I don't really know alot about hockey history, so I feel like I wouldn't be able to give justice to the teams potential.

If you want a checking line, try Gainey Clarke Provost.Throw a some muscle in there with Probert or Fergie. You could even sub Keon in for Clarke.

I'll only use players I've seen play at their peaks in the NHL. Some guys will need to play out of position:

Jagr Gretzky Lemieux
Lafleur Yzerman Dionne
Bossy Trottier Messier
Kurri Clarke Gainey - Checking Line with offensive flair

Potvin Robinson
Bourque Coffey
Stevens Chelios

Roy
Hasek

F:

Hull-Gretzky-Howe
Esposito-Lemieux-LaFleur
Mikita-Beliveau-Richard
Lindsay-Clarke-Gainey
Extras: Trottier, Bossy
Notes:
*Position isn't necessarily that important. It's relatively easy to switch a centre to wing.
*Gainey wouldn't rank ahead of Morenz, Messier or F. Mahovlich (No. 3 LW ever), for example, but he's a must for the checking line.
*Lindsay's the No. 2 LW of all-time, IMO, but due to his all-round capabilities, I'd want him on the LW for the checking line.

D:
Orr-Coffey
Bourque-Harvey
Shore-Potvin
Extra: Robinson
*Only one explanation needed: I don't think Coffey's one of the top 7 ever, but as far as offensive defencemen, he's behind only Orr. Red Kelly just misses out.

Just for fun the 86-87 Oilers with 5 additions...Lemieux, Bourque, Robitaille, Yzerman and Roy. Assume that the team is made up of the players as they were in 86-87. Then imagine them playing together for the next 8-10 years.

Tikkanen-Gretzky-Kurri
Anderson-Messier-Lemieux
Robitaille-Yzerman-Nillson
McSorley-MacTavish-Krushelnyski

M. Lemieux- W.Gretzky- J.Kurri
Bobby Hull - P.Forsberg- M. Richard
T. Lindsay- B. Clarke- G. Howe
B.Gainey- G.Carbonneau- J.Lehtinen
extra- B. Trottier

B. Orr- R. Bourque
D. Harvey- D. Potvin
A. MacInnis- L. Robinson
extra- S. Stevens

P. Roy
D. Hasek
B. Durnan

There are better players than Kurri but I want him on here because of his chemistry with Gretzky. And he was great defensively, which is needed because Wayne and Mario were one-dimensional.

First two lines are for all-out scoring, third line can score but will hopefully accept decreased roles and play tough/dirty/shut-down, fourth line will not be scored on, ever.
