Scott Stevens in the old New Jersey uni not even wearing the C but rather the A (long before there was an A-Line in NJD).

When you think of #4 as a Devil, it's usually as team captain and the red/white/black.

The Hockey Gods were smiling on the St. Louis Blues in 1980-81. They finished first in the Smythe Division with 107 points. Wayne Babych's 54 goals and 96 points contributed significantly to that success. He was the first Blue to hit the 50-goal mark.

View attachment 400090Gordie Howe (9) could always draw a crowd. Here we see him facing the Oakland Seals in Oakland, on November 13, 1968. Alex Delvecchio (10) is facing off against Joe Szura (18). Also seen here are Gerry Odrowski (11), Kent Douglas (5) and the arm of Frank Mahovlich (27).
Players just looked older in those days. They all look about 40 - 50 years old. Must have been all the second hand smoke!

Stevens didn't want to be there initially and I think had plans on going right back to St. Louis when he became a UFA, or something, so in that context it's not that hard to understand why the team didn't throw a C on him at first sight.

Lifted from @Puckstruck here:

punch return

A striking portrait of Punch Broadbent, taken over 100 years ago, looking like he could be in a Hollywood movie.

Haha, can totally see him in The English Patient.

Here we see NHL President Clarence Campbell presenting the Minnesota North Stars' Danny Grant with the Calder Trophy. In 1968-69, Grant scored 34 goals - as did fellow rookie Norm Ferguson, with the Oakland Seals. Grant received 119 votes; Ferguson received 112 votes.

Imagine what current NHL'ers would look like without the hair plugs that we quietly know they have.
