"Governor Kathy Hochul is expected to announce a deal in which New York and Erie County pay nearly $1 billion towards a new $1.4 billion Bills stadium, per
@nypost
. It'd be the most public money ever spent on a U.S. stadium. It could open next to the current one as soon as 2026."

And I bet the remaining $400+ million will be covered by PSLs......

Public costs apparently now 'only' 850 million

NFL expected to approve the the use of G4 loan later today.

State has a deadline this week to include funding in the budget

Edit: Deal announced. 600 million from state. 250 million from Erie County, 200 from NFL G4 Loan and 350 million from the Pegulas

That’s not going to play well in big chunks of the state. But I guess you have to protect the one NFL team willing to actually play in New York.

Given she is the first governor from WNY let alone anywhere north of Westchester since horse and buggy times it's to get those votes.
Those votes don’t mean shit. Downstate is where the votes are.

This is a stupid deal, but is fairly in line with every other sports team unfortunately. As of now she hasn’t lost my vote solely because of this.

The issue is that save for maybe Suffolk and Richmond (Staten Island), downstate is going to vote for the democrat on the ballot no matter what. And even in recent elections with the NYS GOP in disarray post-Pataki, those counties usually have narrowly gone blue. As it is the 9 counties that are consensus downstate are enough to ensure a Hochul win as it is, the rest is gravy.

I think there is a fear, especially after cases such as the Colts and Sonics, that being That Politician That Let The Beloved Local Team Move is a stigmata no politico wants to wear.

I think that logic applies if any of the NYC teams moved. If she let the Bills move, she could have spun it like how AOC did with the Amazon HQ2 debacle. Although with HQ2, that was a bad move that progressives won’t admit.

Fans said they didn't want a dome because of the home field advantage. The design of the new place does have a roof over the seats (unlike the current place) which should help prevent the really worst of the chilling wind off the lake, but a full dome wasn't wanted. And they said they also preferred staying in the suburban location instead of a downtown one because of the tailgating space. Because if anyone knows how to have a tailgate scene that is beyond wild, it's Bills fans.

What home field advantage? Can’t remember the last time they won something.
