Look what happened to his career. It started going down the toilet when he left. It took a few years because of his talent, but he was never the type of player that could have more success somehwere else as opposed to here. He got complacent and lazy and it derailed his career.

He was so pathetic by the end of his tenure with the Rangers (which was 2 years into that huge contract by the way) that Sather traded him for someone he has never seen play.

Then he got so bad with Montreal that they had to institute a new rule for the Habs so that they could buy him out when the lockout ended (he was basically equivalent to Redden in that regard).

He then traded on his name for a year with the Sharks, then only the GD Panthers would have him last year. And then we have 2014 where only Lou's good nature and philosophy allowed him to even entertain the thought of playing in the NHL again.

If that isn't your career turning into a complete joke, I don't know what is.

Mind you, he's only 34, not 40.

wow. you're obviously a little jaded. im sure you were heartbroken when he left for a ton of money.

lets get the facts straight. He was far from "pathetic" with the Rangers/Habs..He put up 70 points in year one and 59 in year two. Got traded to Montreal for Chris Higgins and McDonagh (7.1 million dollar deals are tough to move)..Centered the top line in Montreal and led them to the Eastern Conference Finals and had 59 points. SO PATHETIC..After that, he did struggle in Montreal and got bought out and signed in San Jose.

Your next mistake is that "only the Panthers offered him a deal"..total nonsense. Florida, NJ, NY, and Philly all offered him deals. He went to Florida with the promise of "top line minutes". Obviously didnt work out the way he wanted - Florida stunk and they went with a ton of youth..

This offseason - Lou called and offered a tryout. he wanted to comeback to the devils..done deal.

I think some people really underestimate what this guy has done in the league..he is the leading active American in points for his career. He is around 25th overall in points for an American in history. Guy has made almost 80 million dollars..so pathetic..i know.

lighten up francis..

Why cant ppl accept that it is extremely difficult to win consistently in today's nhl. Salary cap and new fa rules mean that a constant influx of young talent is needed If a team has several lean drafts, out of pure bad luck (bc sorry ppl projecting how 17 year olds will look by 25 isn't an exact science), you're effed.

Lou could have made better decisions. But the Niedermayer thing, the parise and Kovy thing, those are very hard for any team to recover from.

The spoiled fans who are shouting about lack of success since the lockout should reflect on how lucky they are to have witnessed the run this team had from 92 to 2012. Arguably a top five successful team in sports and 2nd in the nhl to Detroit.

If you can't handle a handful of lean years. You're not a true fan.

100% agree. The league has been completely restructured to promote parity, to give different franchises a better chance at success each season, and to make keeping a good team together for more than a few years a difficult task.

I think the draft is a bigger part of being a successful team than it ever was. It's absolutely vital. And yet it's an element that isn't even close to an exact science. A huge portion of it is just luck.

Back to Gomez - Boucher is a kid that I'd like to see play with Gomez if he gets called up at some point. I think they could work somewhat well together.

I think Boucher could learn something from Gomez. Not so much in terms of play making ability, but just how to read a play, the patience you need to play with at times, the area's of the ice you need to go to, and how to be successful at his size.

From the Chere article posted earlier, it seems like Gomez has a real desire to pass on knowledge to the younger players as well.

I'd definitely be intrigued to see how they looked together if Boucher got called up.

Which is a sad state of affairs only because this basically shows there was never a real locker room leader before.

He didn't say there aren't other leaders, just that Gomez is filling into that role.

Honestly I hope and think Gomez's sense of humor might lighten the room up a bit which will help.

I've always thought that Jagr was the one who did that but I guess the losing has sapped his sense of humor....

Gomez was needed after all. :sarcasm:

Did anyone catch the Devils tv bit, where Gomez said that December 23 was holy because it was his birthday?
