I finally saw it tonight and loved it. It was so refreshing to experience such an engaging personal drama in a blockbuster movie. Hollywood could take notes. I was so drawn in by it that I actually could've done with a whole movie about just the humans surviving in post-war Japan, without any monster. It's amazing that what's usually the weakest part of any Godzilla (or any monster) movie is arguably the strongest thing about this film. In the second half, that did wane a little bit and the film did get slightly corny (like all Japanese Godzilla movies), but I still enjoyed it from start to finish, and I honestly can't remember the last blockbuster movie that I could say that for.
