One thing is for certain for next year:

The goalie interference rule has to be completely hauled and rewritten
I don't think it needs to be re-written as a whole per se, but certain terms absolutely need to be defined (what constitutes a "contact outside the crease", what constitutes an "incidental contact", etc.) to avoid interpretation.

I don’t care if they give him a penalty or not. I really wonder Coyle can get pushed directly on top of Swayman and it’s a goal, but a player can get pushed into the goalie by a defenseman, still have the only contact occur outside the crease, and it’s no goal. Look at the Heinen goal from a couple games ago that was allowed, doesn’t it seem like there was a similar amount of contact in the same area of the ice?

The real answer to your question is in Table 16 of the NHL rule book. Yes I’m being serious, it’s a layout of various situations and results for GI.
