Salary Cap

  • CAPFRIENDLY IS RECOMMENDED FOR ALL CAP INFO.
  • The salary cap maximum for the 2016-2017 season is $73M.
  • The salary cap minimum for the 2016-2017 season is $57M.
  • The salary cap maximum for the 2017-18 season is $73M.
  • Teams may exceed the cap maximum by 10% during the offseason.
  • Teams must comply with the salary cap during the season and by the end of the game.
  • Teams may have a roster of no more than 23 players by the deadline and at the end of the game.
  • Teams may sign their draft picks to contracts using the ENTRY LEVEL CONTRACT CHART.
[/fieldset]

[fieldset=""]Waivers/Buyouts
  • Post in this thread if you’d like to place a player on waivers.
  • Burying a player in the minors or Europe only eliminates a maximum of $900k of their cap hit. Use the Buyout Calculator.
  • A player will be on waivers for 24 hours.
  • Waiver priority will be based on the NHL standings as of February 18th (the start of the game).
  • If a team claims a player off of waivers, they then have the lowest waiver priority.
  • Teams are permitted to use a maximum of TWO ordinary buyouts.
  • Buyout Calculator
[/fieldset]

[fieldset=""]Trades
  • All trades must be sent to Joel Ward and Peter Griffin or else they are not valid.
  • Once a trade is agreed upon, send it in BEFORE POSTING, and then you can announce it in the thread. A deal without a NTC or NMC does not have to be approved.
  • If a trade is announced prior to it being sent in, it will be vetoed.
  • ALL MOVES MUST BE SOMEWHAT REALISTIC. The commissioners hold the power to veto any moves we deem to be ridiculous.
  • A trade involving a NTC or NMC must be sent in by BOTH GMs with a reasoning for the player(s) to waive. The trade must be approved by BOTH JW and Peter Griffin prior to posting. Keep in mind that many NTCs or NMCs will NOT be waived.
  • The commissioners will provide a 5 to 8-team no-trade list for players with an unspecified "limited NTC" upon request.
  • If a trade involving a NTC or NMC is announced before approval, it will be vetoed.
  • If a team does not have enough cap space to complete a trade that has been sent in, the trade will be vetoed.
  • Vetoed deals must be significantly altered in order for them to be accepted.
  • If a player waives his NTC or NMC, the NTC or NMC will still be valid with their new team.
[/fieldset]

[fieldset=""]Agents
[/fieldset]

[fieldset=""]Expansion Draft

Protection Lists
  • Teams must protect either 7 forwards, 3 defensemen, and 1 goaltender OR 8 skaters (forward/defense), and 1 goaltender.
  • Please post your teams protection list in the expansion thread by Friday, February 24th at 7:00 pm EST. If you do not submit your list in time you will be auto'd in the live rounds of the entry draft.
  • Teams must protect all players with active NMC's at the time of the Expansion Draft (who decline to waive), and these players will be counted to the teams protection list.
  • All 1st and 2nd year professionals, and unsigned draft choices, are exempt from selection and do not need to be protected.
  • CapFriendly has an Expansion Draft Tool, use it.

    Player Exposure Requirements
  • Teams must expose 2 forwards who are under contract for the 2017-18 season, and have played 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons.
  • Teams must expose 1 defenseman who is under contract for the 2017-18 season, and have played 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons.
  • Teams must expose 1 goaltender who is under contract for the 2017-18 season or will be and RFA at the expiration of his current contract prior to 2017-18.
  • Players with potentially career-ending injuries who have missed more than the previous 60 consecutive games (or have been otherwise diagnosed with a career-threatening injury) may not be used to satisfy the player exposure requirements.

    Regulations Relating to Expansion Franchise
  • Las Vegas must select one player from each of the 30 other teams, for a total of 30 players (14 forwards, 9 defensemen, and 3 goaltenders).
  • Las Vegas must select a minimum of 20 players who are under contract for the 2017-18 season
  • Las Vegas must select players with an aggregate Expansion Draft value that is between 60-100% of the prior season's upper limit for the salary cap.
  • Las Vegas may not buy out any selected players earlier than the summer after it's first season
  • Las Vegas will be given a 24 hour window to negotiate with unprotected UFA's and RFA's that are left exposed, between when protection lists are submitted and when Las Vegas' selections are due.
  • Las Vegas will be able to make trades following the commencement of the Stanley Cup Finals.
  • Las Vegas will not be able to trade selected players back to the team they selected them from until January of 2018.

Veteran players such as Jarome Iginla, Rene Bourque, John Mitchell, Fedor Tyutin, Carl Soderberg, Francois Beauchemin, and Cody Goloubef, are being shopped for futures. Other depth options like Matt Nieto, Patrick Wiercioch, and Mark Barberio are available for relatively cheap.

We will listen to offers on Matt Duchene, Tyson Barrie, Semyon Varlamov, Mikhail Grigorenko, Gabries Landeskog, Erik Johnson, and Calvin Pickard, but the latter three are much less likely to move. Duchene in particular has received the majority of the early interest, and offers must include a U23 defenseman (preferably LHD) with legitimate top pairing upside.

We are mainly looking for U23 roster players, prospects, and picks in the top 100.

Retention is possible on contracts with expiring this offseason or next.

Ok here is the plan...

Boone Jenner and our 2017 1st are in play for a young top 6 center with high upsides.

Sonny Milano is avalaible for a young RW with equivalent potential (NHL player or close to be NHL ready).

Open to ideas when it comes to Jack Johnson.

Tampa Bay and Nashville have completed the following trade:

To Nashville

Tyler Johnson
Tampa Bay 7th round pick in 2017

To Tampa Bay

Ryan Ellis
Nashville 3rd round pick in 2017

Was a tough decision to move Tyler Johnson, but given our cap structure going forward we felt we had to make a move such as this. With Ryan having two additional years at a $2.5M cap hit we feel not only have we put ourselves in a better financial position going forward, but have filled a huge hole on our defense in adding a capable #3, RH'ed defenseman to our core. We wish Tyler all the best in Nashville.

Looking to re-tool our roster.

On the Block:
Jussi Jokinen
James Reimer

Untouchable:
Aaron Ekblad
Jonathan Huberdeau
Aleksander Barkov
Roberto Luongo

Everyone else is available for discussion, though keep in mind we are looking to get younger, but would prefer younger NHL'ers rather than prospects/picks

Looking for: Young contract controlled assets and good prospects.

Available: Not particularly attached to anyone, so everyone is available in the right deal. With the grim specter of no postseason looming over Detroit for the first time in 25 years, we'll be exploring deals for the following:

- Zetterberg
- Kronwall
- Green
- Nielsen
- Helm
- Abdelkader
- Howard

UFA Rentals: Thomas Vanek, Brendan Smith, Steve Ott.

ALTERNATIVE FUN PLAN: If the deals line up, I'll do a Team Sweden...
