SABRES ACQUIRE PESCE FROM HURRICANES, AGREE TO SIX-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION
March 8, 2024
BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo Sabres announced today that the team has acquired defensemen Brett Pesce and a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forwards Peyton Krebs and Matthew Savoie, along with a second-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
The Sabres subsequently agreed to terms with Pesce on a seven-year contract extension with an Average Annual Value of $6.5 million, beginning with the 2024-25 season. The contract includes a full No Movement Clause for the first four years of the deal, and a Modified No-Trade Clause in the final two years where Pesce would be able to provide a list of 10 teams he would not accept a trade to.
Pesce (6’ 3”, 206 lbs, 11.15.1994) comes to Buffalo following nine seasons with the Hurricanes, where he appeared in 615 NHL games. Prior to turning pro, Pesce spent three seasons with the NCAA’s University of New Hampshire Wildcats. The Tarrytown, New York native was drafted in the third round, 66th overall by the Hurricanes in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
“We are thrilled to add a veteran like Brett to our lineup,” said the Sabres GM. “He provides solid veteran leadership for a group that is very young and still growing. We anticipate his addition will pay dividends for years to come.”
