With the 3rd overall selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, the Edmonton Oilers are ecstatic to select, from the Ottawa 67's of the OHL... SEAN MONAHAN!

[fieldset=INSTANT ANALYSIS >> SEAN MONAHAN]
Sean%20Monahan%20(1)3917.JPG

HEIGHT: 6'2 | WEIGHT: 193lbs | POSITION: CENTER

Not only is Monahan the consensus top player available from the OHL, he has competed all year with names like Ryan Strome, Mark Scheifele, and Alex Galchenyuk at the top of OHL scoring. Without Toffoli or Prince, Monahan has been a one man show among the 67's forward corps. He started his season coming off the U-20 Canada Russia Challenge where he was one of the best players in an early audition for Canada's WJC squad.

"We had this player rated at #2. He's an absolute gamer and does everything it takes to win all the time. He processes the game to such an exceptional degree that he always seems to be in a position to take advantage of any situation."

Brock of OHLProspects.blogspot.com said:
I don't think there are any major flaws in his game. He plays hard in all three zones, he has terrific offensive awareness, and he elevates the play of those around him. He's a potential franchise centerman. His play away from the puck is top notch. He thinks the game on another level. And offensively, he's mulch-faceted. Monahan is one of the most complete players to come out of the OHL in recent years That said, he's not an explosive player. He's not the world's best skater and he's not flashy. You really have to watch him a lot to gain an appreciation for the type of player he is.

NHL Comparable: Jonathan Toews

:habs With the 4th overall, the Montreal Canadiens are proud to select, from Tappara in the SM-Liiga, forward Aleksander Barkov.

For a second year in a row, we had the chance to get the guy who was first on our draft list. Barkov is an incredible young talent and we are thrilled to add him to our organization.

:habs With the 6th overall, the Montreal Canadiens are proud to select, from the Halifax Mooseheads in the QMJHL, forward Jonathan Drouin.

We were ready from the beginning to select Drouin but we thought that we would do it with the 4th overall. After seeing Barkov falls to 4th, we had to go with him but we are very pleased to have two potential franchise wingers. Getting a high profile Quebec born player in Drouin is icing on the cake.

After he selected Barkov, I thought he'd take a defender.

Then I remembered it's Montreal. :D

Subban, Emelin, Beaulieu, Siemens, Tinordi and McIlrath along with young veteran Gorges (not to mention Thrower, Ellis, Bennett, Pateryn and Dietz who all have a fair chance to make the NHL)! ;)
