Big big mistake not offering our 3rd + a prospect for Torres. Sharks got him for a 3rd and the Canucks offered a 4th.. yet again lowballing and look- he went and bit us in the ass for not getting him. We were just 1 pick lower away from getting him.

Link to where we just offered a 4th? I believe it was because their third rounder was essentially a second rounder. We didn't have a second round pick, so unless you wanted us to give a first for Torres I don't see what we could of done.

Yeah I don't think it was in the cards for GMMG. He sure would have looked good on our team though. Wish GMMG never let him walk in the first place. Say what you will about Torres but it's players like him who win a series for you, he's a playoff warrior and this team just doesn't have enough of them.

It was said by Gilman i'm pretty sure that the Canucks offered a 4th. And besides, even if they did offer a 3rd they would of had to add a prospect too and Gillis is never gutsy enough to pay well for what he needs so that wasn't going to happen. And look, it costed the Canucks. Big surprise. I would have wanted him and a lesser 3rd line center over Roy at this point.

I agree with MikeK, we never should of given him up in the first place, but to say that we never pay is ridiculous. What was our biggest need this year? Another centre. What did Gillis go get? A centre.

A RENTAL centre... Gillis is just going to have to look for another one this offseason if any of our prospect centres aren't ready since Roy is looking for a big payday on the free agent market which he will get. I would be happy with a Goc or something along those lines. You can't deny the fact that Gillis lowballed Phoenix and Phoenix simply took the better offer.. every insider had Torres most likely going to Vancouver and look what happened.. San Jose wanted him more.

Letting Torres walk was terrible asset management to begin with. He walked because Gillis said he'd be playing on the fourth line, but he wanted more playing time which is totally justifiable.

Two years later Gillis realizes his mistake and makes an offer for him at the deadline and he loses out.

A few weeks later he scored a playoff OT winner against his former team.

Oh, the irony.

Torres had a goal and an assist in three games last year as well for the Phoenix Coyotes. This is another tying goal. He's a true playoff performer.

Yep. I'd like to see Gillis let go after AV if we don't go far these playoffs. I'd give Gillis another year to fire AV and patch this team up and see how far they go but if it's another short playoff run, I say he's gone.

We had multiple needs that Gillis failed to address.

Center - check
Top 9 winger - nope
Fourth line help - nope
Defensive depth - nope

There were like 20 trades made at and around the trade deadline. The Canucks made one of them (and it was a Top 5 move of the deadline). It's not like there were so many players moving.

Another year?? If AV doesn't go after this post season my head is going to explode

He is done.

You can't make these claims about us lowballing the Coyotes cause you have nothing to back it up. We didn't have as good of picks, and San Jose capitalized on it. Who cares if Roy is a rental, we got what our biggest need was, for a crap prospect and a 2nd.

To be fair it takes 2 teams to make a trade but I think Gillis could of done much better but I'm glad he didn't as AV had ruined this team already and whatever player we picked up would most likely walk next season.

Pittsburgh made 4 trades at the deadline and addressed all their needs. If they can do it, so can the Canucks.

But of course Gillis wants to keep all his picks so he and his posse can blow them away on future franchise players like Yann Sauve and Anton Rodin :shakehead

Lol KConn is not a "crap" prospect... not even close. And a 3rd round pick is a 3rd round pick, not a second. And Roy is an undersized center and not a faceoff specialist, not what we needed. You can go check the Gilman interview after the trade deadline and say again that I have nothing to back it up..

We had two pressing needs, first and most importantly we needed a centre. Then it would of been nice to pick up a top 6 winger.

You always are looking for defensive depth and upgrades on your fourth line, but to imply that they are even remotely as important as our top 2 needs is ridiculous

I am also happy all we lost at or near the deadline was a 2nd and a prospect who probably never sees regular minutes in the NHL. This team has huge issues moving forward and not a lot of depth in prospects. We need all the draft picks we can get. I pray GMMG is willing to make bold moves to get this team younger and move up in the draft. I'm tired of sugar coating it with this team. The Sedin's & CO. have had the window close on them. Their 33 next year and the rest are 30+. This team needs to start looking at what they have moving forward.

Yup, same. I'd give this core one more run over a new coach without changing anything and if they fail again, blow things up and get young.

We don't have as good of a prospect pool as the Pens and can't afford to deal them. Simple stuff

Connauton took a huge step back this year and I don't know if be will ever become a regular, and doubt he turns out as he is projected.

AV is as good as gone this offseason. I think MG knew at the deadline that there were too many holes to fill at once so his plan was to wait until the offseason and hope for the best. If he doesn't make any real changes though by making the core younger and faster, I'd say he'd find himself on the hotseat pretty quick too.

No way, this kind of ES ice time division makes perfect sense :sarcasm::

Edler: 23:30
Bieksa: 21:40
Garrison: 18:22
Hamhuis: 17:15

I couldn't believe Bieksa was getting a minute more at ES per game than Garrison in the regular season given how they were playing. Now that it's the playoffs and he's getting 3:30 more than Garrison and nearly 5:00 more than Hamhuis? That's disgusting.

This. It's inexcusable.
