Another good article. I hope Giroux has an "up" season this upcoming season and places top 5 in points or so. I know it's getting harder to score, but I'd like Giroux as close to a PPG or higher player as he can be, for selfish reasons.

Good article. One thing that I've gained in appreciation while watching hockey these days, is that i try to view it through the lense of history. Each game could be one that is integral to the game's history, and we are merely watching it unfold live.

Since Giroux made an insane dangle around the Thrashers defense and goalie in his rookie year, i knew he'd be special. In 2012 he began to show everyone just how special, and i think we're going to be fortunate enough that we still haven't seen Giroux at his best.

G needs D-men who know how to pass.

I mean, is it a surprise that this team iced the worst 6 defenders it has in years and Giroux struggled to score?

Put 6 guys that can skate/pass/shoot a little and just the threat will open up room for him.

There was ZERO threat back there this year.

There's that, and the fact that Berube's system encouraged perimeter play & cycling the puck... Just to get the puck back to the defense. Kind of a strange idea to implement that sort of system without a defense to work with.

And another good article, Appleyard!

Excellent article.

Would like to see Giroux get rid of the one-timer on the PP. It's got a very low success rate. Would rather see him suck defenders in more and look for the slot pass. Schenn needs to do a better job at getting open there. At even strength, would like to see him shoot MORE. He passes up some prime opportunities to shoot on the rush to make that one extra pass. If he can effectively manage this, he will be back in the top 5 in points.

Giroux was third in the league in PPG, and scored a lot of them with that one timer.

G's one timer is a good weapon, he didn't pass to schenn in the slot because A) teams were watching for that from the success it had for two seasons with Hartnell in that spot and B) Schenn wasnt scoring from that spot anyway.

A lot of times, the best way to shut down our PP was to put 3 players on G so he couldnt make plays, so he'd distribute it to Jake and Streit and they'd find him open for the one timer.

Thankfully the predictions of some HF boarders that his career would follow the trajectory of Scott Gomez of all people hasn't happened! That and how he only scores on breakaways and because D men will figure him out...

It was pretty clear G was going to be a special player for us especially after his breakout playoff performance that then carried over once Richards and Carter were traded.

No. G has a cannon of a one timer on the PP. If anything, he needs to shoot even more.
