How you became a hockey fan: Parents grew up in NY, was an Islander and Ranger fan as a kid since they were those respectively. First game was an Islanders game where Rich Pilon had 2 fights in the first period. After the game I got his autograph and I was hooked on hockey.
How you became a Canes fan: I was in 5th grade when they started in Greensboro, my Dad would take me to about a game every week or two, didn't take long to become hooked! I also, kept going through the line they had in Crabtree Valley Mall when they first came down with Glen Wesley and Sean Burke. I was a Green Chemistry one back when I was in school - I graduated in May 2009. So basically I graduated when the sky was falling and offers were getting pulled left and right. I ended up working at a paper mill and I loved it for a short while. 4 months into it, the company I worked for (International Paper) decided to remove supply from the market and shut my mill down (South Eastern Virginia). They said I could move to Oklahoma, I said No try again, they offered middle of no where Louisiana so I found a new job. Took a consulting job, about went back to get my doctorate at UMass (was pretty much set on it) and then when I was about to, IBM called me, got an interview and a job and I've been happy ever since. I travel a lot, which anyone who knows me, knows I love. I try to catch games in every city I go to if possible.

This is how I started off as well. Only place I've ever been to where I've seen multiple fights break out in the stands rather than on the ice (where they were also frequent). The Richmond/Hampton Roads games were the best.

I went to a Hampton Roads game in maybe 1995-6 after a huge snowstorm had finally cleared out and the Richmond Coliseum was packed. The Renegades killed them on the scoreboard and then all hell broke loose. I have still never seen that many fights in a game before. By the end of the game they barely had enough players for one shift. Trevor Senn was an unbelievable fighter...too small for the NHL but he was nasty.
