OK, if Germany wins against the US, this thread will be totally pointless.

But let's say for a minute that Germany is last place in its pool. Do they still go to the relegation round to play there?

And if so, and they get last place there, is it at that point that the "no relegation for the host" rule starts to apply? Or do they automatically make the playoffs and avoid relegation that way?

Yep. If we screw up this time and finish 15th or 16th we are relegated. I think Slovakia cannot be relegated this time, since they host next year's tournament, if I'm not mistaken.

Only next years host can ever avoid relegation.

Germany did this last year, where they would have been relegated if not for being host this year. The only one who can't be relegated this year is Slovakia, because they are the host next year.
