Agree. I blame the players way more than the coach and think people here put too much emphasis on the "system." But this is a results business and dropping back to back series after taking 2-0 leads in both is the very definition of a fireable offense.
System has a huge effect on player performance. Just look at the Giants with less talent under Daboll/Kafka vs that offense designed by Jason Garrett.

The Rangers star players didn't execute, they were lazy, and they weren't willing to pay the price to win a playoff series. That's why they lost, not some imaginary "the Rangers don't have a system' nonsense.

Perhaps they were lazy and slow because they didn’t play with any conviction, which is a symptom of a lack of system.

I think it's 50/50 he gets fired.

When you're up 2-0 in convincing roadwins and then perform like they did in rest of series and notably Game 7, it's understandable he would be fired.

But his players forgot how to make a play, not sure what he could have done differently.

Sutter might be good year 1, lightning in a bottle, everyone gets a kick in the ass. but long term absolutely not. might as well just keep Gallant.

But they didn't. Others coaches were able to make adjustments (Ruff did it 3x), and all Gallant did was juggle players.

It's the same thing that happened against the Lightning. He was able to hide it due to some of our players being injured, it being the 1st playoffs for some of our players, and we lost to the defending Stanley Cup champs.

This series exposed the shit out him

This seems like talk-show speculation

Sort of, but Freidman was pretty adamant.

It doesn't really matter who the coach is though if they keep the same players. No systems changes will be enough (and you called it out right, its a lack of identity) if they keep the same players.

They don't need to drop the bomb on the roster, but they do need to get rid of the parts that either don't fit or are just flat out malignant.

Who are the names rumored to be available and how good are they in coaching up offense and working with skill players?

I would think JQ got the most out of some pretty high level skill players on all those Chicago teams...

Panarin and Zib had 90 points in the regular season, Fox had over 70. It's not the system, it's guys not raising the level of their game. Not doing to the dirty work required to win in the post season. Insisting on going east - west when the right thing to do is dump the puck and chase (especially with the Devils being awful in their own end). Ultimately, Gallant couldn't get the team to buy in and he should go but let's not kid ourselves and think a new coach is going to come in and get different results with a guy like Panarin.

Our 5v5 performance for two years straight when you have all the high level skill players we have is inexcusable. Gallant was bailed out by an all world goalie and at least a half decent powerplay (which also was worse this year than last).

Even Quinns offense with less developed and overall talent than this team was better. He just wasnt a good coach overall.

Making adjustments is not the same thing as a system. But I agree with you, Gallant did a shit job adjusting and couldn't get his team going in the right direction.

Have we circled back to the "This team needs an ass kicker behind the bench" narrative yet? I think that'll definitely fix the team this time around.
I mean, the most coherent and best hockey we've played since the lockout (2014) was basically a Torts team. AV just let them breathe a little bit.

As soon as AV dug in, it was unwatchable and has been unwatchable since.

Quinn though a bad coach overall got more out of the overall talent he had offensively than GG did. Including Panarin who basically became a glorified passer who refuesed to shoot under Gallant.

Doesn't change anything. Need to get rid Panarin and let Kane walk. Let Laf, Kakko and Othmann take the time. This is a pointless move, but I guess it is inevitable.

crazy that Gallant has a shelf life of two seasons on his last 3 teams. I wonder if it was this obvious for Florida and Vegas. At least we have Tro- oh wait.
