I think you’re seeing a couple of things this year, even beyond the poor defense in front of him:

1. The league adjusts to young goalies. As other teams see goalies more, and pick apart their strengths and weaknesses, it’s up the goalie to adjust. But not unlike young pitchers, sometimes they never quite recapture that initial magic. Not saying that’s what will happen, merely saying that it does happen.

2. One of the concerns heading into this season was that Georgiev hadn’t even played a full season of North American hockey. As such, even if he was “ready” for the NHL, there was still something to be said about giving him more experience. We are now in the second half of Georgiev’s second pro season and he’s around the 67 game mark, which isn’t bad. But isn’t quite the same experience of putting together strings of games and getting into a groove.
