Looking for a stat, and all of your efforts to find it (the first 3 pages of Google brought nothing ;)) seem to be in vain? Perhaps one of us can help you find it!!

The idea of this thread is to reduce the "clutter"; that is, posts that only serve to ask basic questions, and don't have anything to do with the study on hand.

So post away any questions/comments/concerns/hallucinations that may or may not fit into any other thread on this forum!!

I have seen statistics of most common linemates as a percentage (as well as most common competition) thrown out. Does anyone know where I can find the website that has this information?

http://www.behindthenet.ca/nhl_time_on_ice_stats.php?c=0+1+3+5+8+7+9+11+13+15+17&ds=8&f5= - lists the top 10 linemates and opponents by percentage

http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/players.php - lists every linemate and opponent with head-to-head time on ice, as well as goals for/against

Data request: PP and SH assists

Does anyone know where one might find power play and shorthanded assist data of NHL players from seasons 67-68 to 92-93? Official or compiled from other sources. Playoff and pre-expansion data is also welcome.

1987-88 to present: nhl.com

Change the year in the URL to find numbers from different seasons.

1986-87 and earlier - I'm not aware of any official sources. I've compiled unofficial numbers from the Hockey Summary Project boxscores. In some cases these differ from the official numbers, probably because of scoring changes not reflected in the boxscores. Download a spreadsheet with those numbers here.

Thank you very much.

I do have most of the official numbers from 1987-88 on but there are a number of cases where a player has been traded mid-season and the team specific data is missing.

Right, NHL.com doesn't report the team specific numbers anymore. Try ESPN for those cases.

Is there a site that defines the stats the NHL uses? Like provides a definition of - say - a shot on goal, blocked shot, and all of the other stats they use?

I'm not asking for the definitions of those two stats, I'd just like to find a site that provides the definitions for all the stats that are tracked.

I'd like to see a list of all the stats available and for which seasons. Sources for estimated TOI, estimated SV%, etc. would be helfpul as well.

Do you know if I could get this information in a format similar to behind the net but for all teammates or opponents? I'm really looking for opponents most but would like both.

It looks like hockeyanalysis has all the information I need but it would take me forever to look up each one individually to make the data usable for me.

Below is an example of what I'm looking for either by team or the whole NHL. Preferably with percentages like behind the net has instead of by Time on Ice.

For Teammates:

Name|Bergeron|Marchand|Seguin|Chara|Boychuk
Bergeron|0|85.1|55.2|35.5|40.4
Marchand|80.4|0|52.3|43.9|39.9
Seguin|67.1|51.6|0|38.8|35.5
Chara|44.2|47.2|33.1|0|61.7
Boychuk|39.3|33.5|31.5|54.2|0
Lucic|6.5|2.1|20|29.3|26.4
etc|x|x|x|x|x

The top would be the player I am looking at and going down will be the percentage of the top players minutes that each player was on for. So for Bergeron - Marchand was on for 80.4%, Seguin for 67.1%, Chara for 44.2%, Boychuk for 39.3% and Lucic for 6.5%, etc. of Bergeron's minutes.

Same thing for opponents but the column going down will be much longer if it is done by team or equal if it is one huge spreadsheet of all players across and down.

I'm looking for any studies of value or total number of players by age.

The more comprehensive (by position, various metrics, etc.) and more historical, the better.

NHL Game Logs in Excel

Hello,

I'm looking for a source for NHL data. Ideally I'd like game logs in Excel, including as much key data as possible (shots, goals, special teams times, goalies, etc.). Does anyone know of where such a spreadsheet might be available?

Thanks!
