Garbage schedule

Oilers have the worst schedule in the League and it’s blatant. We repeatedly play teams on the second of back to backs when the opposition are most game ready and dialed in. We also had to start the year in friggun Europe. Not to mention having the most flying in the league.
Hey Todd, look 2 posts above yours.

For a different reason I find scheduling is garbage.

Why can't the NHL stagger games ?

Instead of 10 games on a Saturday where 8 of them start at the same time, why not have them start at 1, 3, 5, majority at 7, 8 and 10 ? Depending on how many western teams play, but gives people a chance to watch hockey whenever.

Evening stagger is actually better when offset by half an hour so you can swap games during intermissions. The worst thing is a bunch at 7 and then 8, because you'll only catch maybe a couple minutes of a period of the 8 games until the 7 finish.

1, 3 and 5pm times don't work too well for most hockey teams because they are too early for West Coast teams, and Canadian fans are too used to late starts (also gives a chance to get the kids home from hockey practice and whatnot).
Plus of course Sunday afternoon is already dominated by NFL football for half of the season.

This is what happens when you try to squeeze 1271 games into a 186 day span. With half of those days being unavailable due to scheduling conflicts with NBA teams.

Can you show us how it's blatant when compared to the 30 other teams?

Playing a ton of games bunched together is obviously tough but I think Florida had a really rough season start in the opposite way. Tons of time off between games which usually makes the team rusty and then a bunch of back to backs to make up for it. Two weeks into the season they'd only played 3 games. To start November they played back to back games in Finland just to come home and sit for 6 days.

What I'm gathering from this thread is that no matter what a team's schedule is, fans will find some way to complain about it.

The Sharks have played 4 back to backs ON THE ROAD in their last 9 games. Are other teams facing this kind of scheduling?

Avs had a b2b then 4 days off. Then another b2b earlier in the year. And have also played 19/30 games on the road already. So yes sim shitty schedules all around.

It’s not the B2B’s that are the problem, it’s when the B2B is the 3rd in 4. That’s brutal

We had 5 days off after the opening game, for some reason. And that was with a trip to Finland coming up in mind. So you barely play in October, just to go weeks on end in November without 2 days off in a row, and a few back to backs.
You wait all offseason to start the season, then you start the season with a game, and then.... you wait. Just to have to play a murderous schedule a month later. It makes no sense.
