LOL, true, how long are we going to be on plain GDTs, curb our creativeness, refuse to get our hopes high and be cautious in our passion? And we must overcome the limitations of the Oates era. We need a real change of culture that we haven't had yet. I mean, yeah, it's harder, but we must learn how to win with fancy GDTs.
LOL what a garbage game. I hope it's just a negative effect of that long rest.
Orlov looked like a complete trash, move him to the RD and play Schmidt.
Ovechkin looked the same he's been all season: off, but creating nice chances, getting shots and hits.
Orpik looked as a guy who's trying to get to a game shape through games and really wants to throw big hits.
Do something to damn Laich. Force him to retire if he's going to play like that, find a tanking team, anything, because an AHL level Stephenson looked better than he did.
Williams should just strike off those blind passes from his game at all. Same for the rest of the team.
Johansson likely forgot that it's a contract year for him.

Stephenson is our next Eakin. Stick with him. He'll develop more here in 10 minutes a night than in Hershey. You only need to be patient with top-6 guys. They need to keep their confidence up and score to keep progressing. Stephenson is going to be a good 3rd line center sooner than you think.
I don't think they've been overmatched (they do have solid possession numbers) but they haven't scored to offset what they've been on for. Laich hasn't been on for a single goal for and neither has Stephenson. Only fifteen forwards have played more 5-on-5 TOI than Laich and not been on for a goal for yet. None have a higher cap hit. Laich is a very marginal 5-on-5 player and PK specialist at this point. No use expecting that to change.I'm all for sticking with the young guys through Jan/early Feb. Just discussing the obvious, that his line is overmatched fairly often. I love his potential.

I don't think there's an apparent solution for the fourth-line that makes it great and that probably holds for the third line as well. They need more energy forwards that play smart in addition to hard. I'm inclined to let Stephenson figure it out but it's hard to figure how Burakovsky gets going playing with those two and getting a few shifts up the lineup.
No but his cap hit has a significant impact on the construction of the bottom six and the bottom of the roster overall. For a supposed veteran leader he adds nothing to any line offensively at this point. The best that can be said of him 5-on-5 is that he's typically fine defensively and helps play to head in the right direction. That line has no identity and Laich's complete vanilla game is part of why that's the case. Are we trying to blame it all on Laich? If you're giving up more that you're getting you're overmatched in my book.
Nothing to do but let them all play meaningful minutes for now.
the next GDT is going to be so basic, it's not even going to say GDT, just "game" as title. no time, no opponents, nothing.
Someone has to test a really awesome fancy GDT against a bad team too though
Lets make a poll fancy-vs-minimalist.
You mean like the Pens?
Punctuation is everything.
"Are you kidding? Me, right now."
