I see the reports of Vitek’s demise have been greatly exaggerated

I think this game proves we can't ride Vetek to hard down the stretch, he needs rest. It will be good to have 3 goalies available, we all know Blackwood will be on IR again!

Some things I want to make sure I praise that I can recall after sleeping on it last night:

I thought our defense had a really solid, strong outing overall in terms of positioning and stick work. There's always going to be lapses but between some of the early odd man chances and the PK, I thought it was one of the best defensive performances of the season. Siegenthaler in particular had a number of really nice breakups that I can remember. Marino is just so composed on the backend, it's ridiculously impressive to watch.

I really enjoyed watching Timo last night because he uses his size extremely well. It's absolutely an element of our lineup that we needed to address and it just happened to be the best player available. Once he gets fully acclimated, it's going to be such a joy to have him here.

Even when the Nico line is hemmed in our own zone for a period of time, they just do the dirty work to grind away along the boards until they gain possession and get it out. They're on such a good roll right now, I hope it can continue. I don't want to see that line broken up any time soon.

Missed you knuckleheads last night. Brother in law came over and we enjoyed curries, beers, and the game. He's a Hurricanes fan so he left very unhappy. I was pleased indeed. Looked to me like a solid win and everyone was playing quite well. Sure there were a couple of breakdowns - and boy, can you see Carolina jump on them and set up in the offensive zone like its a power play fast. They're a good team. Makes the win more impressive. Some close chances early in the third.

I know some might say we got lucky on two of our goals but we made the luck. Hughes' relentless forecheck surprised De Haan who thought he had more time in his own end to break out. And Kotchetkov thought he had more time to play the puck and fumbled it. We buried both of those, plus the pretty flick to Bratt for the short breakaway goal was nice. I think Kotchetkov let two of the goals through him, but even so. Vanacek for his part looked refreshed and focused. Even that one weird play where it fluttered in on him and hit his right pad - there was a Cane sitting there ready to garbage collect but V had the wherewithal to stick it away himself.

First place. It feels nice. 2nd most wins in the NHL, and 2nd most ROW in the NHL. It's been a long, long time.

I don't know if it was mentioned by anyone in the thread during the game, but they did a nice video package for Haula playing in his 600th game last night and highlighting his play as of late. They then panned to him on the jumbotron. Most players I feel don't tend to acknowledge those little video packages when they happen, but he smiled and waved. He got a nice reception too.

I know @NjDevsRR would appreciate it if nothing else.

Also, I finally got the ability to film the entirety of the Take on Me/Chico video since they aired it last night and will have it on Youtube eventually today for those to enjoy.

Such an awesome time. Crowd was really rocking, things cooled down in the 3rd when we started to be more passive but the positive vibes were there all night.

This game was all about those getting the monkey off their backs. Stellar performances from Jack, Bratt and the Vitek especially.

Fun note, I won a meet and greet for raising funds for the Devils 5K back in October that I was able to use tonight. They bring you down to the bowels of the arena in a room with other fans in the final few minutes of the game and tell you they don’t know who it’ll be until just beforehand. We line up and the door opens behind us, and it’s none other than Nico.

Capped off what was an awesome night to get to grab a photo with my current favorite player on the team. Love this team and love this season.

I trust he was nice to the assembled fans?

I've gotten to meet Nico a few times and he's truly down to earth. And it was cool to see the surprise of the others that were there who maybe had never gotten to meet him before, especially the young ones. I think they were in shock that it was Nico who showed up.

The organization has put a lot on his shoulders since Hall left. He's very young for all the responsibility. It has to be gratifying to finally have the team's success lift the weight off his shoulders to some extent. To do this with grace and kindness speaks to the foresight the team had when they handed the keys to him. He was clearly too young and burdened by it but he has grown into the role. Very happy for him.
