I fell asleep in the third and missed the Jooris goal, dammit.. I'll have to catch it on the highlights. I did manage to catch the first two periods, and though the Flames were pretty lousy overall for the first half of the game, Jooris was definitely a lone bright spot and was one of our best players from what I saw. Big congrats to Shaner and family, must have been quite an experience to see him score in his first NHL game. I can't say I was really surprised, moreso expecting it.. guys with his work ethic almost always get rewarded for it eventually. On another note, no one else really stood out to me as either having played good or bad, but man Wideman was all kinds of awful again. A few stupid plays and just generally looks disinterested out there. The luxury of a NMC and a shortage of experience on a team's blueline can equate to complacency.. I thought Diaz made some nice plays and played fairly well overall, at this point I'd rather see him with Smid full-time once Engelland is back.

Edit: ..and top cheddar on Bobrovsky! Good use of his body to evade The Wiz there, and sweet pass by Gio to spring him. Dandy little play for one's first NHL goal.

What an amazing night. Don't really know what to say. Pretty speechless.
Everyone else has already chimed in, but I'm ecstatic for you and your family tonight Shaner. I am also extremely please your cousin has already proved me wrong. I was hoping to get a Jooris ADK jersey this year, but if he keeps playing like he did tonight it will be a Flames jersey instead.

Shaner congrats buddy, honest please tell your cuz we are all pumped for him and we're pulling hard for him to do well!

Diaz looks quite a bit better than Wideman. I just want someone who acts like they want to be here.

We lost, but we battled. Keep working at it, keep learning, and keep playing with pride, nothing to be ashamed of.

If only this team could wake up before the 40min mark one day...

Send Seto to Adirondack and keep Jooris up. That's the only thing that makes sense short term and long term.

Seto has played quite well while in the lineup. Sending him down for Jooris doesn't really make that much sense and sets a bad example since Seto has played well enough to be in the lineup. It makes more sense to send down Gaudreau to be quite honest as it would probably be positive for his development.

I don't think Seto has been bad at all. I mean, has Glencross been better? I don't think Seto has been great as in he's contributed no offence, but he doesn't hurt you, he works his butt off, skates hard, creates traffic, and he could of easily had at least 3 goals by now. I said this when we signed him and I still feel this way, I'm indifferent to him being on the Flames. I don't expect much, but at least he's a good example to our kids and he's playing a team game. To just bash him, saying he sucks is false, show evidence at what exactly he sucks at. Wideman on the other hand has been hot garbage overall to me, I feel he's going to become a problem in the room.

Just messing around with potential lines to see what might work tomorrow vs the Jets:

Glencross - Backlund - Hudler
Gaudreau - Monahan - Colborne
Raymond - Stajan - Setoguchi
Byron - Bouma - Jooris

Giordano - Brodie
Russell - Engellend
Smid - Diaz

Hiller

A little lacking in truculence, but a good balance of four lines that include the guys who have shown thus far that they can be depended on and deserve to be there; if Engelland is good to go for Sunday, get Wideman the F outta there in favour of Diaz, who has clearly been the better of the two.. and give Hiller the nod to see if he can build on whatever confidence he gained from his stellar performance in Chicago.

I actually really like Joe at C, but those lines all look pretty dangerous to me and would allow Stajan to play a more effective game.

Make Jooris the 4th line centre, it's his natural position and will be better on draws than Bouma.

Jooris was playing in the top 6 last night, wasn't he? Why demote him and gift JG a spot up there?

I didn't necessarily intend for those lines to be ranked in any particular order, so much as I figure Hartley would roll 'em out on terms of what is working during the game.. (whatever variation of) Bouma-Jooris-Byron could hypothetically wind up being our most effective line.

Hiller should definitely start tomorrow, imo.

The thing about having Joe at C is that it bumps Stajan, a capable 3rd line centre, to the fourth line. As long as McGrattan and Bollig are on the team, the fourth line is a bit of a wash. Play Bouma on the fourth line and let him be a PK/defensive situation specialist.

I would actually really like to see Stajan centre Gaudreau.

If he was playing with Byron and Bouma it wouldn't really be like a 4th line though.

But I doubt MGrattan and Bollig are scratched after the pre-season meeting between the clubs.

Stajan played better as the 3rd line center last night. I didn't really like him playing 4th line minutes.

Stajan has shown consistently he produces better playing with better mates. He's not a guy that will make others around him better, but he can play anywhere in your lineup and usually match who he's playing with. The thing is I think Hartley loves having Joe play C due to his size.
