I remember when Habs had drafted Hillis, McShane, Fonstad & Houde in the 2018 draft, when it was time to sign them or relinquish their rights, wewere all saying that out of all of them, Hillis was the one who should be signed to an ELC.
After a few years, Hillis is having a hard time nailing down a regular spot in the AHL, playing mostly in the ECHL. Meanwhile, Fonstad and Houde are signed to AHL deals and are full time AHL'ers. McShane made his way to Europe and has been playing there since finishing his Junior career.
This isn't to say they should have signed some of the others instead of Hillis. Only to show that sometimes, how a player looks in Junior doesn't always pan out when they turn pro. That even if none of them are NHL'ers, it's clear that Fonstad and Houde are having more steady success than Hillis is.
