CANUCKS (3-1-0) at STARS (2-1-2)

TV: SNV, FS-SW

Season series: This is the first game between the Vancouver Canucks and Dallas Stars. Dallas swept all three of its games with Vancouver last season by a combined score of 12-3. In their final game of the season, the Stars defeated the Canucks 6-1 on a big night for Tyler Seguin, who scored his third hat trick of the season and added two assists.

Players to watch:

Alex Edler

Edler is coming of his worst year as a pro finishing last in the league in +/-. He has started the season strongly putting up 3 points in his teams first 4 games, along with being the best Corsi d-man on the Canucks. Edler will have to solidify his defensive game due to Dallas' depth he will tasked of shutting down either Jason Spezza or Tyler Seguin.

Tyler Seguin

After putting up 84 points last season, expectations for Dallas' young gun Tyler Seguin were sky high and boy has he not disappointed. Seguin despite battling an illness for the first week of the season is tied for 3rd in NHL scoring behind only Sid Crosbyand John Tavares.

Starting goalies (not confirmed)

Excited for the earlier start with this one. Ill actually be able to watch some of the game live!

That Stars first line is deadly looking. I am expecting the Canucks to play a safer game than they have previously. I think we would get destroyed playing run and gun against them.

At least we should win the special teams battle. Dallas has not looked great on the PP. If all else fails, take penalties!

I'm thinking it'll be a 3-1 Stars win.

This games comes down to one man.

Ryan Miller.

Sedins i feel are going to get off...
The Seguin line with last change will free up and get a lot of chances.
We will be opportunistic on the PP and take advantage of their PK.
It will be up to Miller as the last line to come huge as our D strains without breaking.

3-2 Canucks.
Top line with a couple (1 on the PP), Second line with an additional PP goal.
we go 2/5 on the PP.
1st Star Miller - 28 saves

Surprising stat for me to read in this matchup...

We are taking 34.5 shots/game, and giving up 26.5
Dallas is taking 27.6 a game and giving up 32 - they are opportunistic and create some grade A chances Miller will have to be sharp on.

Advantage us.

We have better goaltending and defense... they are more explosive.
Contain em and take advantage on special teams.

Miller Time.

We've been a better team than them for the last half decade plus thru the first 41 games last season... It shall continue.

Key to the game: Don't give Benn/Seguin/Spezza a breakaway for our first shot against of the game.

Stat Time!!!!

Corsi +/- for each line. (Just each players Corsi +/- added together for each game)
Sedin-Sedin-Vrbata: -22, 14, 41, -2 Total 31
Higgins-Bonino-Burrows: 21, 21, -13, 9 Total 38
Richardson-Vey-Kassian: 21, 7 -11, -4 Total 7
Dorsett-Matthias-Hansen: -10, -7, -8, -6 Total -31

Those stats show that the 4th line has struggled possession wise and I expect moving Vey down and Matthias up might be to try and give that 4th line more possession potential.

Ahhh another mid-range playoff team that is obviously much better than the Canucks. What a depressing season this is.

I'm excited to watch Benn and Seguin, Benn is such a machine. It's neat to watch a franchise pick itself up off the scrap heap and build a winner. In a few years the Canucks should be at the point the Stars are at now, if we're lucky. It's an exciting time for their fans.

I'll be watching for that guy in the 95-96 alternate Mogilny sweater that always goes to games in Dallas. Also that piece of **** weirdo behind the visitor's net that bangs on the glass the ENTIRE GAME

Hoping Burrows/Higgins can help shadow/shut down the Seguin/Benn killer line.

Another hope I have is that our bottom six forwards can get some chemistry soon, plus can't wait till Horvat makes his intro to the team! Need some kind of boost to the bottom six.

Matthias and Kassian should prove to be a solid 3rd line, and in a week or so Horvat centering them should be even more solid.

Does Hamhuis have a broken nose or is it just a cut? The sooner he gets that shield off the better he lost the puck a few times last game also pretty sure at one point he stepped on it and fell.

Makes sense, in getting away from that Sbisa-Weber pairing. I'd expect Hamhuis to play a decent number of shifts with Bieksa on top of that anyway.

Bieksa and Sbisa together is a brilliant idea

our D is a mess

Better than giving Hamhuis those minutes right now with his face shield. He's terrible with it on. It'll only be very temporary and may not even last throughout the game, so don't worry.
