1993-1994:

March 1, 1993 -- Flyers' Senior Vice President Bob Clarke was named Vice President and General Manager of the new franchise in South Florida (Anaheim also received an expansion team). "It was really a hard decision for me because of feelings about Philadelphia and the Flyers. My family and I love Philadelphia and the Flyers. But I have to work and I wanted to manage and that job wasn't in Philadelphia." In the 1993-94 season, Clarke was chosen The Sporting News' and The Hockey News' Executive of the Year. Clarke was fired by the Flyers in April 1990, joined the Minnesota North Stars later that off-season for two seasons, rejoined the Flyers in June 1992, then, after one season with the Panthers, rejoined the Flyers in June 1994.
November 2, 1993 -- In the first meeting at Florida, Dominic Roussel made 27 saves and the Flyers out-scored the Panthers 4-0 in the second period en route to a 4-3 win in Miami Arena. Philly trailed 2-0 after one period but scored four consecutive goals in the second period. The second line of Rod Brind'Amour (1-2-3), Kevin Dineen (1-1-2) and Josef Beranek (1-1-2) scored three times in a span of 3:35 to give the Flyers a 3-2 edge. Dineen and Eric Lindros scored consecutive SHGs to give Philly a 4-2 lead. The first goal scored in this series was by Florida's Jesse Belanger.
February 10, 1994 -- In the first meeting in Philadelphia, Eric Lindros' (2-1-3) second goal 50 seconds into OT lifted the Flyers to a 4-3 win. Lindros said afterwards that Mikael Renberg should have been awarded the goal which was scored in a crease scramble. All three Flyers' goals in regulation came on special teams' including a SHG by Dave Tippett. Florida scored twice in the final six minutes of regulation to even the score including the tying goal with 1:19 to play when netminder Dominic Roussel erred on a clear behind his goal and left the front of his net unprotected. Mark Fitzpatrick made 34 saves for the Panthers. Panthers' Vice President and General Manager Bob Clarke was in attendance.
March 20, 1994 --John Vanbiesbrouck made 45 saves leading the Panthers to a 5-3 home win. Brian Benning had three assists including second period goals by Scott Mellanby (1-1-2) and Dave Lowry (1-1-2) which gave the Panthers a 3-2 lead. Philly outshot Florida 48-25 including 36-14 over the last two periods but the Panthers held a 4-2 goals edge. The Flyers were led by Mikael Renberg (1-2-3) and Rod Brind'Amour (two PPGs). The win gave Florida 73 points tying them with the 1967-68 Flyers and 1979-80 Hartford Whalers for the most points by a first-year NHL team.
March 24, 1994 --Eric Lindros (1-2-3) had three points and Tommy Soderstrom made 19 saves in the Flyers' 4-3 home win. Josef Beranek scored at the 2:10 mark then Lindros' goal made it 2-0. In the second period, the Flyers went ahead 4-0 on goals by Mikael Renberg and Rod Brind'Amour and both were assisted by Lindros. Florida scored twice in the third period and ex-Flyer Andrei Lomakin, claimed by the Panthers in the expansion draft, finished the scoring.
April 7, 1994 -- Ex-Flyer Gord Murphy's (1-1-2) soft back-hander early in the third period from 40-feet out beat goalie Tommy Soderstrom, who made 39 saves, and the game finished in a 3-3 OT tie. Soderstrom said "You don't expect a backhand from the blue line, but I saw it when he shot it. That was not the problem. I lost it on the way." Murphy said "If I did it 100 times, I couldn't (score) again." The Panthers held a 42-23 shots advantage. Each team scored two PPGs. Mark Recchi (1-1-2) had two points. The late season game was part of a playoff chase for the final spot in the Atlantic Division: NYI made it with 84 points, Florida had 83 and the Flyers 80. Rod Brind'Amour said "A tie didn't help us one bit."
June 15, 1994 -- Bob Clarke returned to the Flyers as President and General Manager and in exchange Philadelphia traded a 1994 second round pick (used to select Ryan Johnson). Clarke was the Vice-President and General Manager of the Panthers. Clarke became the first person to win The Hockey News' Executive of the Year in successive years with different franchises as he accomplished the feat with the Panthers for 1993-94 and with the Flyers for the 1994-95 season. The Flyers failed to make the playoffs in the previous five years then advanced to the 1995 Eastern Conference Finals under his leadership. Clarke was with the Minnesota North Stars for the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons, including when the team played in the 1991 Stanley Cup Finals, and then returned to the Flyers for one season, 1992-93, in a non-hockey operations role.

1995-1999:

February 9, 1995 -- John Vanbiesbrouck stopped 26 shots in the Panthers' 3-0 win at Philly. Dave Lowry gave Florida a 1-0 lead then Stu Barnes (1-1-2) and Gord Murphy scored 40 seconds apart later in the opening period. Florida led 3-0 after one period with an 18-7 shots advantage. The Flyers held a 19-10 shots advantage the rest of the game including holding the Panthers to two shots in the second period. Dominic Roussel made 25 saves. Eric Desjardins and John LeClair made their Flyers' debuts after a trade with Montreal earlier in the day. Coach Terry Murray took LW Mikael Renberg off Rod Brind'Amour's line and put him with center Eric Lindros and LW John LeClair on a newly formed unit eventually termed the "Legion of Doom."
March 2, 1995 -- John Vanbiesbrouck made 35 saves to lead Florida while each member of the Legion of Doom line had two points in a 2-2 tie at Philly. Mikael Renberg's (1-1-2) PPG cut the Flyers' 2-0 deficit in half with under two minutes left in the second period. Eric Lindros (1-1-2) scored in the third period. John LeClair (0-2-2) had two assists. The Flyers outshot the Panthers 37-17, including 27-12 through the first two periods.
March 18, 1995 -- Eric Lindros completed his sixth NHL hat trick with an OT goal in a 4-3 win at Florida. Lindros' line had nine points: Lindros (3-1-4), Mikael Renberg (1-2-3) and John LeClair (0-2-2). Lindros scored his 101st career goal in his 152nd game. Dominic Roussel made 25 saves. The Flyers outshot Florida 22-11 following the Panthers' 17-9 advantage in the opening period. John Vanbiesbrouck made 27 saves for Florida. It was the Flyers' seventh straight win.
April 18, 1995 -- Eric Lindros (1-2-3) and Mikael Renberg (1-1-2) combined for five points and Ron Hextall made 18 saves in a 3-1 win at Florida. In the opening minute, Florida's Jody Hull stole the puck from Kevin Dineen and had a clear breakaway but was thwarted by Hextall. The Flyers led 3-0 after two periods with a shot advantage of 23-7. Gord Murphy snapped Hextall's shutout bid in the third period. It was the Flyers' seventh straight win, the second time that season they reached that figure after a win against the Panthers.
November 2, 1995 -- John Vanbiesbrouck made 21 saves, Rob Niedermayer scored in the first period then Radek Dvorak made it 2-0 in the second period in Florida's 2-1 win at Philly. The Panthers held a 15-3 shots advantage after one period but were outshot 19-6 over the last 40 minutes. Upset with the performance, coach Terry Murray benched Legion of Doom linemates John LeClair and Mikael Renberg for much of the second period and he elevated Rob DiMaio and Shjon Podein. Eric Lindros scored the lone Flyers' goal but he suffered a strained MCL in his left knee when he was low-bridged by Jason Woolley (who received a clipping penalty) on his final shift and missed the next seven games; Lindros had 11 goals and 11 assists in the Flyers' first 12 games and was named the NHL Player of the Month for October 1995. Afterwards, Murray thought the hit was an illegal attempt to injure but later Lindros said "I know Jason ... he doesn't play that way." Rod Brind'Amour was ejected with 2:22 remaining due to a checking-from-behind major. The Flyers entered the game with a 7-1-2 record through 10 games. After the game, Renberg was asked of the benching and he said "We deserved it. Nobody is above the team. I wasn't helping the team." LeClair was asked a similiar question and he responded "It's not my place to say that. I'm a player, he's the coach."
November 7, 1995 -- Radek Dvorak (2-0-2) scored the GWG with 3:16 to play and Florida netted three goals in the last 7:45 of the game en route to a 4-2 home win. John Vanbiesbrouck made 14 saves in the win. The Panthers held a 27-16 shots advantage. Garth Snow made 23 saves in the loss. November 29, 1995 -- Kevin Haller's shot deflected off the back of Paul Laus and past goalie John Vanbiesbrouck with 30 seconds left in OT and the Flyers beat the Panthers 2-1 in Florida. Ron Hextall made 27 stops. Brent Fedyk tied the game 1-1 1:02 into the third period. Philly did not have a shot on goal for the opening 16 minutes and was outshot 21-8 through two periods. Each team finished with 28 shots and the Flyers held a 20-7 advantage covering the third period and OT combined. John Vanbiesbrouck made 26 saves including two breakaway stops in OT. The Panthers (35 points) concluded the night as the NHL's best team and the Flyers tied Colorado for second-most points (34).
January 22, 1996 -- Rod Brind'Amour scored with 2:39 left in the third and the game ended 1-1 (OT) in Philadelphia. Ron Hextall stopped 23 shots including a game-saver with 38.5 seconds to play in OT when Mike Hough's breakaway was denied. Jody Hull snapped a scoreless tie 6:58 into the third period and John Vanbiesbrouck made 30 saves for Florida. Mikael Renberg left the ice due to an abdominal strain, originally suffered in late December, and eventually missed 30 of the final 36 regular season games.
February 14, 1996 -- Ron Hextall made 28 saves, including several key stops in the third period, leading Philly to a 4-2 victory in Florida. John LeClair (1-1-2) scored with 16 seconds remaining on the Flyers' only PP attempt and it was the go-ahead goal at 2-1. Anatoli Semenov also scored in the middle period to put Philly ahead 3-1. Paul Laus made it 3-2 early in the third period and that is when Hextall rose to the challenge. The Panthers went 0-for-5 on the PP.
May 2, 1996 -- In Game One of the East Semis in Philadelphia, John Vanbiesbrouck recorded the shutout as the Panthers' strong team defense limited the Flyers in a 2-0 win. The result of the tight-checking game was a combined total of 33 shots (Flyers 18, Panthers 15) on goal, the lowest figure in any Flyers' PO game. Stu Barnes (1-1-2) and Dave Lowry scored goals, the first coming on a 2-on-1 break with Kerry Huffman the sole Flyer back, and the second coming with just over four minutes left and with Kjell Samuelsson in the box. There were seven minors and 14 PIMs total in the game.
May 4, 1996 -- In Game Two, Eric Lindros' (1-2-3) third period goal snapped a 2-2 tie and provided the Flyers with a 3-2 home win. Lindros was a key factor throughtout the game including some plays that infuriated the Panthers' brass including knocking off John Vanbiesbrouck's mask, cutting Stu Barnes (five stitches) near his eye and slashing Ed Jovanovski ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDLya89-EE8 ). John LeClair (1-2-3) also had three points. The Flyers scored twice in the second period, goals by Karl Dykhuis and LeClair, to take a 2-1 lead but Dave Lowry evened the score with a third period PPG. JVB made 44 saves for Florida. Philly outshot the Panthers 47-26 but goalie Ron Hextall made huge saves in the third period. After the game, Florida head coach Doug MacLean verbally attacked referee Mark Faucette and then he and Panthers' GM Bryan Murray contacted other NHL execs to complain that Lindros' stickwork was not whistled; the Panthers were issued a gross misconduct penalty at the 20:00 mark.
May 7, 1996 -- In Game Three, Ron Hextall made 24 saves in the Flyers' 3-1 victory in Miami Arena. Dan Quinn (1-1-2) and Eric Lindros (GWG) scored on consecutive first period PPs with Brian Skrudlund off on a double minor for high-sticking. The Flyers outshot the Panthers 17-2 in the first period and led 2-0. The game finished with multiple penalties including a Lindros-Ed Jovanovski confrontation when the Flyers' captain tried to score into the empty net. Scott Mellanby, according to Flyers' head coach Terry Murray, punched Lindros while Bill Lindsay came in and jumped him. Philly outshot Florida 34-25. The game began with the Panthers' fans chanting "Lindros Sucks" throughtout the National Anthem and then tossing plastic rats at him while he stood on the ice.
May 9, 1996 -- In Game Four, Dave Lowry's controversial goal 4:06 in OT gave Florida a 4-3 home victory. Lowry's goal came as the net was lifted off its moorings by Scott Mellanby but a video replay called by referee Rob Schick was done to see if the puck was kicked into the goal, which it wasn't. Rob Niedermayer scored twice in the first period, including on the game's first shot, to give Florida a 2-0 lead at 8:23, the second of which came on a 5-on-3 with two Flyers' defensemen penalized. Mikael Renberg (2-0-2) and Rod Brind'Amour (1-1-2) scored second period goals within 78 seconds to tie the game but a crucial error cost the Flyers as defenseman Kerry Huffman, subbing for the injured Kevin Haller, made a terrible gaffe and Stu Barnes capitalized with 5.5 seconds to go in the middle period when he batted a Paul Laus shot. The Flyers dominated the second period 24-11 in shots and held a 46-32 advantage for the game. With the Miami Arena crowd sensing victory, Renberg temporarily silenced them when he jammed in his own rebound with 1:07 left in regulation. John Vanbiesbrouck made 43 saves for the Panthers. An odd moment: after the first period was over the Flyers complained that there was a clock malfuntion at the end of the first period, which was verified; the teams played the lost time of 3.6 seconds to start the second period. Rob DiMaio returned to the Flyers' lineup after missing the prior 17 games with a knee injury.
May 12, 1996 -- In Game Five, Mike Hough scored 8:05 into the second OT to give the Panthers a 2-1 victory on Mother's Day in Philadelphia. Ron Hextall, highly praised afterwards by Terry Murray, made 40 saves and was one of the few bright spots in a dismal effort. At the 2:27 mark, the Flyers were given a five-minute PP for a Paul Laus elbow ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHFSFAjWVRM ) on Pat Falloon but managed just one shot on goal. Eric Lindros scored a PPG ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0w3xvLyjAHE ) with one second left on a 5-on-3 in the second period but Stu Barnes tied the score early with a deflection off Dale Hawerchuk's skate 2:39 into the third period. The Panthers outshot the Flyers 17-5 in the two overtimes. It turned out to be the last Flyers' game played at the Spectrum (until two preseason games in 2008). No penalties were called after the 12:54 mark, meaning 55:11 was played without a call (nine minors and 18 PIMs total). The game drew the highest NHL rating ever for South Florida, an 8.2, beating the 4.9 and previous high for Game One of the series. Lindros said "We're coming back here. We're going to win." May 14, 1996 -- In Game Six, John Vanbiesbrouck made 34 saves and Florida clinched the series with a 4-1 win in Miami. Bill Lindsay (1-1-2) scored a SHG in the first period and that 1-0 lead held until Rob Niedermayer's PPG early in the third. Dave Lowry's goal made it 3-0 before John LeClair scored a late goal to cut the gap to 3-1. Kevin Haller returned to the Flyers' lineup for his first action all series (broken thumb). Florida's Scott Mellanby said "I kind of feel a little numb right now. I really didn't see this series going this way." Terry Murray said "JVB was the best player of the series. He was tremendous." Mikael Renberg said "We had control of the series and we let it slip away. You have to give Florida credit for the way they played. They played really good. They are a good team. Brad Smyth scored the first regular season goal in the building, his only goal of the season. Dainius Zubrus, at 18 years and 3 months, was the youngest Flyer to score a goal 13 seconds later to even the game 1-1. Scott Mellanby scored the eventual GWG and Johan Garpenlov added an ENG. October 27, 1996 -- Scott Mellanby's 200th NHL goal snapped a scoreless tie 29 seconds into the second period and Florida led the rest of the game en route to a 3-2 win in Philadelphia. JVB made 21 saves for the victory. Ron Hextall made 25 saves and Daniel Lacroix had two points in the defeat. At 7-0-3, the Panthers were the NHL's lone remaining unbeaten team and had the franchise's first 10-game unbeaten streak.
November 2, 1996 -- Joel Otto scored the GWG with 1:02 left in the third period and Ron Hextall made 26 saves in Philly's 3-2 road win. The Flyers trailed 2-0 past the game's midway point until Trent Klatt (1-1-2) scored then Shjon Podein tied the game with under eight minutes left in regulation. The Flyers held a 44-28 shots advantage including 22-12 in the third period. JVB made 41 saves for the Panthers. December 10, 1996 -- Joel Otto, Eric Lindros and John LeClair each had a goal and an assist leading the Flyers to a 5-4 home win shown on ESPN2. The Flyers led 4-1 after two periods and midway through the third period. The Panthers went 3-for-6 on the PP including their final goal on a 6-on-4 with JVB pulled. John Druce suffered a strained right shoulder and received twelve stitches over his right eye after being checked into the boards; he missed the following five games.
February 22, 1997 -- Eric Lindros (2-1-3) scored with 57.6 seconds left in OT to lift Philadelphia to a 4-3 win in Miami. Lindros won a key faceoff then passed back to Eric Desjardins whose shot was deflected by Lindros. The Flyers won an incredible 53 of 75 faceoffs. Philly also held a 40-34 shot advantage, 5-1 in overtime, including 15 combined from Lindros and Rod Brind'Amour who gave the Flyers a 3-2 lead when he stole Bill Lindsay's drop pass and scored a SHG breakaway. Garth Snow made 31 saves in the win, JVB made 36 saves in the loss. At the 15:04 mark, Michel Petit was eventually suspended two games for a knee-on-knee hit to Johan Garpenlov. Paul Laus attempted to fight Petit but was issued a minor-misconduct while Petit was given a major-misconduct. After the penalty was served, the Panthers' Scott Mellanby got to Petit and he also was issued a misconduct. Said Garpenlov "I don't think he tried to hurt me but he did."
October 1, 1997 -- Ron Hextall made 23 saves and the Flyers' PP scored twice in a 3-1 home win. While the Flyers went 2-for-5 on the PP, the Panthers went 0-for-6. Chris Gratton made his Flyers' regular season debut and scored the game's first goal. The Flyers got PPGs from Dainius Zubrus and Pat Falloonto take a 3-1 lead. Eric Lindros' highstick to the head of Rob Niedermeyer resulted in a concussion and 10-game absence from the lineup which drew the ire of Panthers' coach Bryan Murray. Scott Niedermeyer, then of the New Jersey Devils, was asked of the play and he said "I only saw the play once on a highlight. I didn't think it was all that bad. He had his hands and stick up. Maybe when a guy is that big, you don't need to do that. But I don't think it was that dirty a hit. I think maybe it was just unfortunate how he got hit." Florida's Gord Murphy suffered a 15-stitch cut after an accidental high stick by John LeClair. JVB made 26 saves for the Panthers including one on a feeble penalty shot attempt by Trent Klatt; afterwards, teammate Dan Lacroix had a chalkboard drawing of Klatt's shot by showing the puck exploding after the pad save to which Klatt laughed and said "If you can't laugh at yourself, you can't make fun of others."
November 14, 1997 -- John LeClair's (2-1-3) second goal snapped a 2-2 third period tie in a 5-2 win at Florida. The Flyers scored two PPGs in the second period and then scored three times in about four minutes midway in the third after Florida's Dave Gagner scored his 300th career goal to make it 2-2. Eric Lindros had three assists and Garth Snow made 22 saves. Prior to the game, the Panthers acquired Viktor Kozlov from San Jose (for Dave Lowry) and after an eight hour fight he committed a costly turnover which led to the Flyers' fourth goal. Afterwards, with much hype surrounding the events of October 1, 1997, Florida's Scott Mellanby said of Lindros "To be honest, the hit on Robbie (Niedermeyer) may be a penalty but it is not dirty. He's big, what is he supposed to do, play soft?" Fifty seconds into the game, Niedermeyer shadowed Lindros, checked him to the ice and then poked him with a stick; he was penalized. Afterwards, Niedermeyer said "I just wanted to send a message, and I did that, but I think ultimately he (Lindros) made us look foolish. He was the one who set up the two goals." Florida head coach Doug MacLean said "He wanted to get it out of his system...I'm proud of him."
December 20, 1997 -- Garth Snow recorded his third career shutout by making 14 stops and Rod Brind'Amour and Eric Lindros netted PPGs in the Flyers' 2-0 home win. April 4, 1998 -- JVB made 37 stops backing the Panthers to a 4-1 win in Philly. The Flyers scored 2:08 into the game but were held off the scoreboard the remainder of the game. Steve Washburn and Kirk Muller scored within 20 seconds in the first period and the Panthers led 2-1 before six minutes were played. April 9, 1998 -- Kirk McLean made 23 saves and Bill Lindsay's late goal in the second period snapped a 2-2 tie in Florida's 3-2 home win. There were 160 PIMs including 142 in the second period. In the final nine seconds of the second period, there were three separate stoppages due to fighting majors. Scott Mellanby jumped the Flyers' Chris Joseph with 8.3 seconds left in the period, a confrontation based on an earlier play in which Joseph's high-stick cut Dino Ciccarelli's face. Florida head coach Bryan Murray said of Mellanby's decision "I don't know why he did that, but sometimes a captain wants to send a message.'' With less than a second to play in the second period, Luke Richardson and Peter Worrell fought and Chris Gratton battled Dallas Eakins in a healthy scrap; Gratton, Eakins and Joel Otto, third man in the Richardson-Worrell fight, were all ejected. A sellout crowd of 14,703 attended the game, Roger Neilson's first visit to Miami Arena since his departure from the Panthers (53-56-23 mark).
April 16, 1998 -- In the last NHL game played at Miami Arena, John LeClair (1-3-4), Eric Lindros (2-1-3), Trent Klatt (1-2-3) and Sean Burke (33 saves, including eight on a lengthy 3-on-5) led Philly to a 7-3 win. The Flyers went 3-for-8 on the PP and took a 3-1 lead on three PPGs, including two by Lindros who played in his second game since being sidelined March 7 with a concussion. Kirk McLean (14/18) was replaced after the second period by JVB. Dan Kordic fought Paul Laus. The Flyers' PK was 8-for-8 including killing a 5-on-3 for 1:41 which came partly because Dan McGillis was ejected in the first period for elbowing David Nemirovsky who suffered a broken nose. Another Flyers' defenseman was ejected when Petr Svoboda was tossed midway in the third period with Philly up 4-3.
November 12, 1998 -- Kirk McLean made 39 saves and Mark Parrish scored two first period goals in Florida's 2-1 win in Philly. With 1:17 to play, Peter Worrell and Chris Gratton got fighting majors while Gratton also received an instigator minor and a misconduct. The Flyers had a 40-15 shots advantage and Eric Lindros, John LeClair and Dan McGillis combined for (17) more shots than the entire Panthers' roster. JVB played for the Flyers against his former team.
November 22, 1998 -- Keith Jones (1-1-2) scored 26 seconds into OT and the Flyers recorded a 2-1 victory in the Panthers' new arena, the National Car Rental Center, in Sunrise, Florida. Eric Lindros also had 2 points including a perfect setup, after stealing the puck from Robert Svehla, to Jones for the GWG. The Flyers' JVB made 25 saves, including several key stops in the third period, and earned top star honors in his return to Florida. Beezer was beaten only by a Ed Jovanovski breakaway with 19 seconds left in the opening period, seven seconds after he exited the penalty box. John LeClair gave the Flyers a 1-0 advantage. The Panthers outshot Philly 26-16 including the low total of 13-9 after the opening period.
January 26, 1999 -- Newly acquired Pavel Bure (six goals in three games) scored a hat trick for Florida in a 3-3 OT tie in Philadelphia. The Flyers outshot the Panthers 11-1 and led 2-0 about seven minutes into the game. Bure's second goal tied the score in the third period. Eric Desjardins gave Philly a 3-2 lead. Philly held a 30-19 shots advantage, including 5-0 in OT. Goalie John Vanbiesbrouck, who suffered an injury when he landed awkwardly into the goal post after Rob Niedermayer and Desjardins collided in his crease, was replaced with 23 seconds remaining in regulation by Ron Hextall "My right leg got into somewhat of a spasm, and it wouldn't release. My rear end hit the post," said Beezer. Alexander Daigle was benched after nixing a trade that would have sent him to Edmonton for Andrei Kovalenko. GM Bob Clarke said Daigle is "not part of the team anymore. He made that decision." Eric Lindros' streak with goals in seven consecutive games came to an end. In team history, only Rick Tocchet (9) and Ron Flockhart (8) had longer streaks.
February 24, 1999 -- Panthers' goalie Sean Burke made 24 saves and Mark Parrish's PPG snapped a third period tie in Florida's 5-3 home win. After a scoreless first, Philly took a 2-0 lead in the second but Dan Boyle (1-1-2) started a rally with his first NHL goal and the Panthers went up 3-2 after two periods. Eric Desjardins' PPG evened the score 3-3.
October 24, 1999 --John Vanbiesbrouck tied his own club record with a third consecutive shutout (38th of his career) as he stopped 22 shots in Philly's 2-0 home win. The three shutouts came in five nights. Jody Hull scored in the first period and Eric Lindros added an ENG. Sean Burke made 31 saves for the Panthers. November 24, 1999 -- Eric Lindros scored twice, JVB made 21 saves and the Flyers crushed the Panthers 6-1 in Florida. Lindros scored the 20th time in his career against the Panthers which was more than any Florida opponent. Lindros' first goal of the game came 37 seconds after Valeri Zelepukin made it 1-0; less than three minutes later, Mikael Renberg made it 3-0. January 17, 2000 -- Mike Vernon made 30 saves and Robert Svehla scored twice in the third period (including an ENG) in Florida's 3-1 home win. The game was tied 1-1 entering the final period. The Panthers, winners of five straight, improved to 16-3-2 at home that season.
January 27, 2000 -- Keith Primeau made his debut, in one of the few games that he teamed with Eric Lindros, and Philly skated to a 4-2 win at home. Lindros, who missed the prior four games (Flyers had zero wins), returned to the lineup after his third concussion in 22 months. Philly led 3-1 after one period on goals by Simon Gagne, Lindros and Mark Recchi; the Panthers closed to within 3-2 in the final minute of regulation but Chris Therien added an ENG. December 27, 2000 -- Roman Cechmanek made 29 saves and Philly scored five straights goal covering three periods in a 5-2 win at Florida. Peter White and Paul Ranheim each had a goal and an assist. Todd Fedoruk and Daymond Langkow each had two assists. Robert Svehla scored both Florida goals, the first and last goals of the game. The Panthers led 2-1 after two periods but the Flyers scored four in the final period. Pavel Bure's (2-0-2) second goal of the game cut the Flyers' lead to 4-3 with about six minutes left but Langkow's PPG with one second remaining finished the scoring. April 3, 2001 -- Trevor Kidd made 39 stops and Len Barrie scored in the third period to lead Florida to a 2-1 win in Philadelphia. The Flyers held a 40-19 shots edge, including 32-11 after two periods. Kidd made 19 saves on 20 shots in the second period. Pavel Bure's 59th goal of the season, a short-handed breakaway, came 1:18 after Michael Sykora gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead with a PPG.
June 23, 2001 -- Jiri Dopita was dealt to Philadelphia for a 2001 second round pick which was eventually sent to Calgary who chose Andrei Medvedev.
October 4, 2001 -- Justin Williams (2-1-3), Jeremy Roenick (1-2-3), in his Flyers' regular season debut, and Eric Weinrich (1-2-3) led Philly to a 5-2 season-opener home win. Roman Cechmanek made 32 saves. The score was 1-1 after two periods. The Flyers scored three straight to open the third and Williams tallied twice in the final period. Kate Smith's "God Bless America" was played during which Lauren Hart joined in the singing and the team's all-time record improved to 64-15-3 when the song was played. Two-thirds of the newly formed Czech Line suffered damaging injuries: Pavel Brendl missed the following seven games with a sprained right ankle and Jiri Dopita, who made his NHL debut, suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee due to a low hit by Dan Boyle and missed the next 15 contests.
October 13, 2001 -- The Flyers had a 53-25 shot advantage in a 5-2 win in Florida. It was the most shots any team had against Florida in a Panthers' home game. The Flyers also set a record for the fastest two goals against the Panthers, 17 seconds, when John LeClair and Ruslan Fedotenko scored. The Flyers led 4-1 and held a 38-18 shots advantage after two periods. Thirty-nine seconds after Pavel Bure scored in the third to make it 4-2, the Panthers' star violently slashed Dan McGillis resulting in a Flyers' PP on which they scored and regained the momentum. Bure was benched after the play. Trevor Kidd made 48 saves in a loss. There were eight fights in the contest. November 10, 2001 -- John LeClair scored with 42.1 seconds left in OT in a 3-2 win at Florida. Simon Gagne (2-0-2), Mark Recchi (0-2-2) and Eric Desjardins (0-2-2) all had two-point efforts. The Flyers doubled Florida on the shot board 36-18, including 15-4 in the third period and OT (4-0) combined. Roberto Luongo made 33 saves in the loss. Luke Richardson missed the next ten games due to a fractured right foot suffered in this game.
April 8, 2002 -- Pierre Dagenais scored his second goal of the game with 16.6 seconds left in the third to lift Florida into a 4-4 tie in Philly. November 13, 2002 -- Pavel Brendl and Kristian Huselius swapped goals in the second period of a 1-1 tie in Philadelphia. Jani Hurme stopped 29 shots while Robert Esche made 28 saves. The crowd of 18,834 at the First Union Center was the Flyers' smallest home crowd since 1996. Jeremy Roenick won 12 of 14 faceoffs.
December 10, 2002 -- Robert Esche made 24 saves and Simon Gagne (2-1-3) scored consecutive unassisted goals on his only two shots of the game in Philly's 5-2 win in Florida's renamed Office Depot Center. The five-goal total ended the Flyers' team-record streak of 16 games without scoring more than three goals. Olli Jokinen, who made two costly turovers in the game, scored the Panthers' 1,000th regular season goal at home. Roberto Luongo made 30 saves.
February 22, 2003 -- Roberto Luongo was brilliant with 43 saves in the Panthers' 4-2 win in Philly. Marcus Nilson and Viktor Kozlov each had a goal and an assist. The Flyers held a 33-15 shots advantage after two periods (46-29 in the game) but the score was tied 1-1. The Flyers also held a 21-4 advantage in scoring chances. The Flyers were outshot 8-0 more than halfway into the third period and trailed 3-1. Afterwards, Ken Hitchcock said "To me, we gave them all the enthusiasm they needed after two periods by not being able to bury it.''
April 6, 2003 -- In the season finale, Radovan Somik (2-1-3), Keith Primeau (1-2-3) and Todd Fedoruk (0-3-3) led Philadelphia to a 6-2 victory in front of a sellout crowd at Florida. Robert Esche made 25 saves. In the first period, Philly led 3-0 and dominated the shots 18-3. Justin Williams returned to the Flyers' lineup after missing the prior 36 games due to a knee injury. Jani Hurme made 33 saves in the loss and afterwards teammate Peter Worrell said "We left this guy (Hurme) out to dry the first two periods. It's too bad we didn't show up. We got our butts kicked.''
October 29, 2003 -- Michal Handzus and Joni Pitkanen each had a goal and an assist and Robert Esche made 21 saves in the Flyers' 5-1 home win. Philly went 3-for-9 on the PP and killed all six Florida PPs. Mark Recchi played in his 1,100th game and John LeClair played in his 800th. Trailing 2-0, the Panthers replaced Roberto Luongo (3 saves, 5 shots) with Steve Shields (22 saves, 25 shots) at the 9:08 mark. There were 93 PIMs combined in the third period, including three game misconducts against the Panthers. January 2, 2004 -- Mike Comrie scored twice in the second period, both goals assisted by Justin Williams and Simon Gagne, and Philadelphia recorded a 2-1 win at Florida. Gagne had 17 points in as many games in his career against the Panthers. Jeff Hackett made 29 saves. It was the Flyers' seventh consecutive road victory against the Panthers. A Jay Bouwmeester slapshot hit Keith Primeau resulting in a broken thumb for the Flyers' captain.
January 8, 2004 -- Valeri Bure scored 2:56 into OT in Florida's 4-3 road win. Roberto Luongo was sensational with 46 saves. Philly outshot the Panthers 49-19 in the game including 33-11 after the first period; however, Florida scored three of the game's four goals. Nathan Horton (2-1-3) scored the Panthers first and second goals and he became the youngest player (18 years, 224 days old) in NHL history to score a goal on a penalty shot which made the score 2-2.
January 28, 2004 -- Joni Pitkanen scored twice but Roberto Luongo made 44 saves in a 3-3 tie at Florida. The Flyers scored twice in 30 seconds midway in the third period to take a 3-2 lead but less than a minute after falling behind the Panthers evened the score 3-3. Michal Handzus had two assists and won 16 of 22 faceoffs. Mark Recchi, who also had two assists, said afterwards "He (Luongo) was the No. 1, 2 and 3 stars out there." Philly outshot Florida 47-25. Road teams were now 7-1-3 in the last 11 played in this series.

2005-2009:

July 30, 2005 -- A draft day swap of first round picks resulted in the Flyers selecting Steve Downie in the 1st round (29th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. The Panthers picked Kenndal McArdle. The Flyers also received a 2006 2nd round draft choice which was later traded to Phoenix and then Detroit (Cory Emmerton).
October 27, 2005 -- Joni Pitkanen's (1-1-2) goal 1:13 into OT followed Peter Forsberg's (1-2-3) game-tying goal with 50 seconds remaining in regulation and the Flyers skated to an emotional 5-4 home win. The Flyers trailed 4-2 in the third period before Simon Gagne (2-1-3) cut the deficit to one goal. Forsberg, whose goal was his first since joining the Flyers, was stopped on a penalty shot with 4:28 remaining and the Flyers down 4-3. Jeff Carter's first NHL regular season goal tied the game in the second period at 1-1. Philly outshot Florida 40-34. Robert Esche made 30 saves. The Panthers' PP was 3-for-8. "Their game-tying goal was the luckiest goal I think I've ever seen. The puck was going wide and then it hit something and it was there for the tap-in," said Florida goalie Roberto Luongo who made 35 saves. Eric Desjardins assisted on the tying and winning goals. Keith Primeau, who also had two assists, played in his last NHL games the following night.
November 12, 2005 -- Mike Knuble's SHG with 3.2 seconds left in the third period gave the Flyers a 5-4 home win. Knuble had just arrived on the ice after a shift change and blasted a slapper past a stunned Jamie McLennan to lead the Flyers to their sixth straight win. Knuble (2-0-2), Simon Gagne (1-1-2) and Michal Handzus (0-2-2) all had two points. Robert Esche made 26 saves and assisted on the GWG. The Flyers led 2-0 at the 2:58 mark. The Panthers rallied to tie from three different deficits. Kim Johnsson played 27:13. The Flyers scored two SHGs and one PPG. The Flyers' record improved to 11-3-1.
December 26, 2005 -- Michal Handzus scored the only goal in the four-round shootout and Ben Eager (2-0-2) scored twice in regulation in the Flyers 3-2 win at the Panthers' renamed BankAtlantic Center. Eager's goals were the first two of his NHL career. Antero Niittymaki was chosen the game's top star as he stopped 34 shots. Josef Stumpel lost control of the puck in the shootout's final attempt. Roberto Luongo made 42 saves.
March 15, 2006 -- Robert Esche made 27 saves and had an assist in a 4-0 shutout victory played in Florida. Simon Gagne gave the Flyers a 1-0 first period lead then Petr Nedved and R.J. Umberger (1-1-2) added second period goals. Joni Pitkanen was chosen first star of the game with two assists. Philadelphia completed a four-game season sweep of the Panthers though this game didn't have the dramatic finishes as the previous three. Roberto Luongo was replaced by Jamie McLennan for the third period. October 20, 2006 -- Ed Belfour made 25 saves and Mike van Ryn assisted on the last two goals, including Olli Jokinen's GWG late in the second period, and the Panthers won 3-2 at home. Simon Gagne scored both Flyers' goals. Philadelphia began the season 1-6-1 and two days later GM Bob Clarke resigned while head coach Ken Hitchcock was fired. The Flyers were 9-0-1 in their prior 10 games at Florida.
November 23, 2006 -- Jon Sim was sent to the Panthers for a 2007 6th round pick used to select Patrick Maroon.
December 27, 2006 -- The Flyers dropped their tenth consecutive game, a 3-1 defeat at Florida. Rostislav Olesz gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead thirty seconds into the game and assisted on Josef Stumpel's goal which made it 2-0 in the second period. Mike van Ryn was a +3 and scored in the third period to make it 3-1. Antero Niittymaki left the game after the second period due to a hip injury; he was replaced by Robert Esche who returned to the lineup after missing 11 games because of a groin injury. Ed Belfour made 23 saves and won for the 465th time. The Panthers held a 33-24 shots advantage.

March 20, 2007 -- Ed Belfour made 24 saves and Olli Jokinen snapped a 1-1 tie late in the second period of Florida's 4-1 win in Philly. Belfour, who entered the season with a 7-10-8 lifetime mark agianst the Flyers, went 4-0-0 this season. Nathan Horton scored an insurance goal with under four minutes left in regulation. Martin Biron made 30 saves in the loss. Mike Richards suffered a separated left shoulder and missed the next seven games.
October 24, 2007 -- Olli Jokinen and Greg Campbell each scored twice in Florida's 4-3 home win. Jokinen's goals, which helped establish him as the Panthers' all-time leader in goals (158) and points (355), gave Florida a 2-0 lead while Campbell's goals gave his squad leads of 3-2 and 4-2. The Panthers' outshot the Flyers 42-23. Martin Biron made 38 saves. Simon Gagne played just 2:48 with what was later diagnosed as a concussion (the first of three that season) after a hit on the jaw by Jay Bouwmeester. Gagne missed the following four games. December 30, 2007 -- Derian Hatcher scored the game's lone goal and Antero Niittymaki had a brilliant 38-save shutout in the Flyers' 1-0 win in Florida. Niittymaki's shutout was the third of his career and among his saves was a stop on a penalty shot by Radek Dvorak. Florida outshot Philly 38-20. Afterwards, Hatcher said "It's always nice to score. What more can I say?" It was his 80th goal in 1,022 career games. The victory snapped Philly's five-game skid in this series.
January 16, 2008 --Antero Niittymaki made 28 saves and the Flyers led 4-1 after the first period en route to a 5-3 home win. Kimmo Timonen (1-2-3), who was named the game's top star with three points in the opening period, and Danny Briere (2-0-2) led the offense. February 23, 2008 -- Olli Jokinen scored on the PP with 1:17 left in OT and sent the Flyers to a shocking defeat 2-1 in Philadelphia. Jay Bouwmeester's slapper tied the game with 3.7 seconds left in regulation; Steve Montador made a key play as he managed to keep an attempted clear in the zone and passed to Bouwmeester. Philly lost for the 10th straight time (0-8-2); however, after this game, the Flyers picked up 28 out of a possible 40 points the remainder of the schedule and advanced to the post-season. Danny Briere scored on the PP with 3:40 left in the second to make it 1-0. Jeff Carter played over 26 minutes but goalie Craig Anderson, who made 40 saves, stopped his breakaway attempt with about 3:30 left in the third period. Philly outshot Florida 41-25. October 24, 2009 -- Danny Briere (2-1-3) had three points and Ray Emery made 17 saves in the Flyers' 5-1 home win. Jeff Carter was named the game's top star with two assists and 11 shots on goal. Arron Asham scored in his third straight game, a career-first, and gave Philly a 2-1 lead. Simon Gagne and Briere scored PPGs to make it 4-1. James van Riemsdyk (1-1-2) finished the scoring with his first NHL goal. Philly held a 38-18 shots advantage including 15-2 in the second period and 28-7 over the last 40 minutes. March 3, 2010 -- The slumping Panthers (losers of seven straight) defeated the hot Flyers (winners of the last five games) 7-4 at Florida. David Booth (1-3-4) and Bryan McCabe (1-3-4) both had four points, Michael Frolik scored twice and Tomas Vokoun made 38 saves. There were four fights in the opening period including Ian Laperriere-Gregory Campbell at the 0:03 mark, Nick Tarnasky five seconds into the game and Mike Richards-David Booth at 2:45. Asham and Tarnasky tussled a second time at the 16:45 mark. Florida led 2-0 after one period and held a 14-6 shots advantage. Booth's goal made it 3-1 12:04 into the second period, Jeff Carter scored nine seconds into a powerplay twelve seconds later, then Jason Garrison, recently promoted from the minors, scored his first goal of the season at the 12:40 mark to make it 4-2 and finish a three-goal flurry in a span of 36 seconds. Florida led 6-3 after two periods. The Panthers edged the Flyers 43-42 in the shots department with Philly having a 36-29 advantage over the last two periods. December 20, 2010 -- Tomas Vokoun earned his fourth shutout of the season and rookie Evgeny Dadonov (1-1-2) had two points in Florida's 5-0 win at Philadelphia. The Panthers scored twice in the last three minutes of the first period to take a 2-0 lead. The Flyers were not scheduled to play again until December 28 which led Panthers' head coach Peter DeBoer to say "I'm sure we caught them with one foot out the door for Christmas break, but we'll take it." Sergei Bobrovsky (18 saves, 22 shots) was replaced by Brian Boucher with 8:25 left. The Flyers, atop of the NHL's standings, entered the night 7-0-1 in the prior eight games.
February 16, 2011 -- Sergei Bobrovsky made 33 saves and Danny Briere (1-2-3) had three points in the Flyers' 4-2 win at Florida. Mike Richards (1-0-1) and Andreas Nodl (1-1-2), who snapped a 19-game scoring drought, had goals 1:05 apart to give Philly a 2-0 lead in the opening period. The Flyers led 3-0 in the third period before the Panthers scored twice. Each team had 35 shots but the Flyers dominated the opening period 19-9 while the Panthers held an 18-5 advantage in the third period. July 1, 2011 -- Kris Versteeg was traded to Florida by Philadelphia for the Panthers' 2nd round choice (later traded to Tampa Bay - Tampa Bay selected Brian Hart) in the 2012 Entry Draft and San Jose's 3rd round choice (previously acquired, Philadelphia selected Shayne Gostibehere) in the 2012 Entry Draft.
The Flyers acquired a 2012 or 2013 second round pick, at the Panthers' option, and San Jose's 2012 third round selection in exchange for Kris Versteeg.
November 13, 2011 -- Ilya Bryzgalov made 31 saves and the Flyers' PK was 7-for-7 in a 3-2 victory at Florida. Danny Briere and Braydon Coburn gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead then Matt Read scored a rare penalty shot while the Flyers were short-handed to make it 3-1. It was the third SHG via penalty shot in Flyers' history (also Simon Gagne and Darroll Powe). The third period was especially hectic, as Jaromir Jagr was whistled for a minor at 1:53, then Max Talbot was issued a double minor at 3:13. The Flyers' not only killed the penalties but Read's successful penalty shot came at the 4:14 mark because of a penalty to Stephen Weiss who then was ejected from the game with a gross misconduct for verbal abuse of referees. Later, Talbot was bloodied by a high stick and lost a tooth but no infraction was issued. Jose Theodore made 32 stops for Florida. The Flyers' PK killed 26 of 27 penalties covering the last six games. The teams entered the game with identical 8-4-3 records. It was the team's second shutout in three games and first at home in the regular season since January 2010 (Ray Emery), excluding a 1-0 shootout loss (February 2012). Brayden Schenn scored a first period PPG and the Flyers' PP was 2-for-4. Claude Giroux (0-2-2) and Danny Briere (0-2-2) each had two assists. The Flyers won despite an injury-depleted lineup that was absent top defensemen Chris Pronger, Kimmo Timonen, Andrej Meszaros and Pavel Kubina. Blueliner Brandon Manning made his NHL debut. The Flyers held a 36-13 shots advantage and won 62% of the faceoffs. Flyers' goalie Ilya Bryzgalov entered the game as the NHL's Player of the Week for the last two weeks with the following impressive numbers: a record of 8-0-1, a 1.20 GAA, a .960 save pct. and four shutouts. January 26, 2013 -- Matt Read (3-0-3) scored his first NHL hat trick and Ilya Bryzgalov made 30 saves in the Flyers' 7-1 win at Florida. Read's three goals came on three shots and he joined Eric Lindros as the only Flyers to have a 3-goal game in this series. Both teams were absent key personnel but the Flyers took a 2-0 lead 7:20 into the game and led 3-0 after one period. Jose Theodore (6 saves, 9 shots) was replaced by Scott Clemmensen (13 saves, 17 shots) in between periods. Three goals were scored very late in the second period, two in the final minute, in a span of 71 seconds giving the Flyers a 5-1 advantage. Six Flyers had 2+ points. Luke Schenn (1-1-2) scored his first Flyers' goal and had a game-high 11 hits. Tye McGinn scored his first NHL goal.

No need to dress Shelley even with Parros in the lineup. Sure he's a heavyweight but he's not a dirtbag that runs everybody.

I really like the 3rd and 4th lines a lot. When Briere comes back put Talbot on the 4th line and sit Wellwood. Laughton is looking like a really smart pick lately. I thought he was smaller and slower with all the comparisons to Mike Richards. Damn he is really good though.

I am glad this one isn't on the nhl network! I got comcast to watch all the Flyers games and I set it to tape when they played the Rangers on csn while I went to work and they blacked it out because it was on the nhl network. Bad thing is I didn't put the extra money towards a better package to get the nhl network! I didn't think they'd black out the only channel I got the game on!!!!

Either way Florida is not that great of a team and I am hoping that the signing of Knuble will help out the pp.

I'm not ready for Knuble to be on a third line. He literally just showed up to the team and is stepping on the ice. I don't think he practiced, so at least until he gets in a practice or two, I'd still want Fedotenko there. They still don't even know with certainty what kind of shape he's in.
