I think Burns-Martin playing 30 minutes is just DeBoer giving them a test in a relatively meaningless game early in the season against a weak eastern conference team, to see what he can expect in case the situation really calls for it later on.

Keep the good times coming.

A better team would have likely beaten the Sharks, especially with that 3rd period penalty parade. The PK does look good though, even without Couture.

Jones continues to impress.

So is Stalock starting tomorrow?

So, first game for Goldobin, what was everyone's thoughts? The game was a bit slow so it's hard to judge, but I was trying to keep an eye on him. Didn't notice anything bad. He seemed to be back checking well when the puck left the offensive zone. It stinks he got cut off the last 10 minutes or so of the third.

Yeah, can someone post about Goldy and Hertl's performance? I did much of the game listening to KFOX. Interested in hearing how these two responded, Goldy being called up and Hertl being promoted.

I've been wondering this too because it didn't really seem like he was noticeable. I was wondering if starting Goldobin on the top line wasn't the best decision too, but I'm hoping he scores tonight and has a much more "visible" game.

I thought Goldy did fine. He has almost the same amount of time as Nieto. Hertl looked fine as well. His hard work on the boards led to our only goal. I think Goodrow was moved up because of experience and to see if he would fit on that line. He only ended up with a minute more ice time that Goldy. I didn't see Goldy do anything that would indicate he was taken of the line for screwing up.

Nobody really shined except Patty's speed. I think that has more to do with the Devils play than the Sharks sucking. If it weren't for the 2 dumb over the glass penalties and the weak last call we'd have won that game in reg.

I think DeBoer was definitely experimenting and thinking ahead to today with the way he had the team playing.

They pulled him off because they trusted Goodrow more defensively than Goldobin for the final few minutes. I don't think they want Goodrow up there with the Joes.

Good point. I think experience covers that. I don't think it hurt that they could see how he played with the Joes. You never know what will happen and just about anyone can play there if it comes to that. It didn't hurt to see what he would do up there.

That's fair, and obviously Goodrow could get a shot up there. I just found the whole thing funny because it's not like Goodrow is a defensive stalwart. He was just the lesser of two sheltered evils.

They pulled Goldy off the Joe's line because the Joes sucked and didn't want to negatively instill bad habits on the Rook.:)

I thought it was a lot like the other games I've seen him play.

He's great on the puck, and not great off it. I don't mean defensively, but it kinda seems like he's waiting for someone to feed it to him. I'd like to see him be a bit more aggressive out there, and move around to find spots.

Burnzie's immune system is also a beast.

the germs push the beard out

I wash my hands and use sanitizer all the time, but at the same time people survived thousands of years without hand soap or sanitizer.

but they lived a lot shorter lives :sarcasm:

they both did fairly well. goldy was doing his thing operating in the offensive zone. with some additional experience he should be able to do it more, and hopefully will not get creamed. however at this time he is a bit of a liability on the top line as he cannot possess the puck that well or scare anyone physically on the forecheck

hertl looked good early on then was okay the rest of the game. team seemed out of synch which I suppose is to be expected when a player like logan goes out.

goody is a good defensive player as far as we saw last year, and does get used as a defensive specialist for the most part.

i thought he did an admiral job trying to make things happen off the puck, but he is just a small guy adjusting to the major league.

Just my obvservations on Goldy - I thought he was great with the puck, and generally looked a bit lost without it. He seemed to not know where to go exactly on the ice and how to play with the Joe's - something I completely understand.

He's also really small and I think his biggest challenge will be getting used to playing against men much bigger than him - the AHL will be good for him.

All in all massively talented with the puck, still learning where to go without it.
