Ansar Khan: Red Wings' Danny DeKeyser will make NHL debut Friday in Colorado, Mike Babcock says

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Quick postgame update following the Detroit Red Wings' 4-2 loss Thursday to the Phoenix Coyotes at Jobing.com Arena:

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said the three defensemen who were scratched tonight will play Friday at Colorado (9 p.m.).

That means Danny DeKeyser will make his NHL debut against the Avalanche one week after signing with the Red Wings out of Western Michigan University.

Ian White, a healthy scratch, and Kyle Quincey, out since March 15 with a fractured cheek bone, also will be inserted into the lineup. Babcock did not say which three defensemen he will scratch.

Babcock said he is leaning toward starting Jimmy Howard in goal for the second night in a row but will think about it.

Why has this one and the last one not been on center ice?

SHOULD be a relatively easy win for us tonight. Game will probably have some snarl... hope nobody gets injured.

Lineups and officials aren't confirmed. For the defensive pairings I'm thinking Babcock scratches CC, Kindl and Lashoff. Excited to see DeKeyser out there and hopefully they can actually win against the worst team in the NHL currently (in the standings anyways)

Starting Howard two nights in a row. Shows how much confidence in Gustavsson they have right now.

Oh boy another must win...would have started Gustavsson in net...he played well in his last start against the Coyotes and preserved the win with a stop on the penalty shot. Gustavsson seems to play better with starting rather than in relief. Gustavsson has only started 4 games all year and has pretty good stats...2-2 with 0.927 save % and 2.60 gaa.

Really not happy with how the team played last night and Howard needed to stop at least one of the 3 goals against.

I think it has more to do with Gustavsson only able to start 4 games all year (thus maybe a bit rusty and less consistent)...he was out a whole month with the groin injury. So Babcock may be going back to Howard again based on his past 3 seasons as the starter...and desperate for more points...but Gustavsson is more than capable of getting a win for us in goal...remember the San Jose and Phoenix starts.

He's gone in the summer, I think. Mrazek is ready to take on a bigger role, he's destined to take over Howard's job in a couple of years. They also have Pearce, Paterson, McCollum (likely gone) and Coreau, too.

By the way, Coreau is with the team, like Dekeyser, for the rest of the year it seems :

He'll join the Wings on Monday and remain in Detroit through the end of the regular season. At that time, the Red Wings will either send Coreau to Grand Rapids or keep him on the roster for the postseason. He could join the Griffins after the Wings are eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs, should the Griffins still be alive in the AHL playoffs.

Question: why has dekeyser dressed in the past few games but not played? Why is he dressing?
