Today we delve into Montreal's lineup to put the spotlight on that famous Hab,
Mitchell Stephens.
Originally drafted by Tampa in the 2015 2nd round (16 picks ahead of Roope Hintz), Stephens' debut in the NHL was during Tampa's Covid Bubble Cup year where he actually appeared in 7 playoff games for the Lightning.
Afterward he would go on to follow master-GM Steve Yzerman to Detroit (acquired for only a 6th rounder -- Great value Steve!) ostensibly to serve as a Luke Glendening replacement who had recently been poached by the Dallas Stars. And who then went on to fill the same role in Tampa.... and on and on we go.
Unfortunately unable to stick with the Wings, Stephens found himself on the move again as a free agent landing in the Montreal organization. Primarily spending time with the Laval Rocket, Stephens, now 26, has gritted his way into the Canadiens' lineup in a 4th line center role.
Said Laval assistant coach Kelly Buchberger rather tepidly:
He’s been up in the NHL. Can he make it again? You never know. It happens. It doesn’t happen a lot; we know that.

So far he's potted 2 goals in 13 games in his latest stint while playing a modest 8 and half minutes per game.

Initialement repêché par Tampa au 2e tour en 2015 (16 choix devant Roope Hintz), les débuts de Stephens dans la LNH ont eu lieu lors de l'année de la Covid Bubble Cup de Tampa, où il a en fait participé à 7 matchs éliminatoires pour le Lightning.
Par la suite, il suivrait le maître-directeur général Steve Yzerman à Détroit (acquis pour seulement un 6e tour - Grande valeur Steve !) apparemment pour remplacer Luke Glendening qui avait récemment été débauché par les Stars de Dallas. Et qui a ensuite occupé le même rôle à Tampa… et ainsi de suite.
Malheureusement incapable de rester avec les Wings, Stephens s'est retrouvé à nouveau en mouvement en tant qu'agent libre atterrissant dans l'organisation montréalaise. Passant principalement du temps avec le Rocket de Laval, Stephens, maintenant âgé de 26 ans, s'est frayé un chemin dans l'alignement des Canadiens dans un rôle de centre de 4e trio.
L'entraîneur adjoint de Laval, Kelly Buchberger, a déclaré plutôt tièdement :
Il a évolué dans la LNH. Peut-il recommencer ? On ne sait jamais. Ça arrive. Cela n’arrive pas souvent ; nous savons que.

Jusqu'à présent, il a marqué 2 buts en 13 matchs lors de son dernier passage tout en jouant seulement 8 minutes et demie par match.
