I would be more so questioning why Carlyle is putting Sprong out in an empty net situation, because that's some bad coaching

I don't even want Kessel out in an empty net situation, and Kessel is an elite scorer.

Logically I want to say yes, but I know it's not true all of the time. Considering the talent the Penguins have, I'd say yes. For a talent-deficient team that just throws pucks on net at all opportunities, no.

Because Sprong is a skating abortion defensively and in the situation of an empty net, you're not trying to score, you're trying to not be scored on.

Yeah, this is fair. I think the thing is that considering how little Malkin's linemates are helping him, I'd rather see him be selfish and just shoot at all opportunities. I don't have a problem with him throwing it on the net when he has the chance, it's what I want to see him do.
