Neutral observer here. In-state rivalries are among the best in sports. It's very fitting that the Kings and Sharks meet so close to Thanksgiving. In college football, this weekend is a traditional rivalry weekend.

The Kings of course are the longest-established team in CA. Just won their first cup not all that long ago. What I'd like to see is some of the premiere colleges in the state of CA launch varsity men's ice hockey teams.

And I also noticed that the Pacific Division is basically composed of two rivalry pods - one in Canada with Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, and the other in the USA with the Kings and Sharks as well as Anaheim and Phoenix. Many miles separate the two rivalry pods in the division.
