Sabres are struggling, they could probably use a new coach to take the kids to the next level. Granato did a great job developing, but may have ran his course there.

Also they still have no goaltending

The issue up there is too many of the same kind of players, and not enough veteran leadership. Okposo is fine but he's a 4th liner. Skinner isn't known for his leadership qualities. After that it's a bunch of kids. It's actually hard to tell many of them apart (other than a Tage or a Dahlin obviously).

The smartest thing they could do is package up a couple of these young players (and they have more coming) and balance out the roster with vets. See: Detroit (though they have far less young talent than the Sabres).

But instead...Sabres gonna Sabre. Always a year away from being a year away.

Yeah agreed, I think that was the plan with bringing in Erik Johnson but probably not enough.

The soft defensive coverage is what I’ve noticed lately. Glad Montgomery is hammering them on that.

Seems like the D is struggling in both the defensive and offensive sides of the game. I know they pulled it out against CBJ and Toronto, but the puck retrieval and movement from the back end was rough.

Soon as you’ve let the other team cycle in your zone for 15-20 seconds, the odds of a goal against skyrocket largely due to fatigue. Guys need to be hard on retrieving pucks and making PLAYS up ice as soon as they are able. Don’t just go into passive zone coverage as soon as the other team gains the zone.

I think it's fair to say that most teams do. The teams that do that really well seem to be the teams to beat come playoff time, or make the most noise.
Bruins really aren’t much of a forchecking team really, they seem to generate most of their offence of the rush ,probably the reason they haven’t had success in the playoffs lately, the game get simpler and they don’t seem to adjust.

The times when they can do it, like when Coyle goes into beast mode, and Frederic and JvR were assisting, they have been really effective and show that most teams aren't built to deal with that in a sustained way. I think that in part has been why VGK under Bruce's system have been good: they can cope with the heavy forecheck better than most in the league.

I'm still trying to figure out what kind of a team they are, aside from great goaltending and a 1.5PPG RW.

Sabres are soft and easy to beat BUT they are on a crash and burn losing streak and we always seem to have trouble with those teams and play down to their level a little so this is a dangerous game we can easily blow. They can score a lot if you give them open ice, so don't give it to them just that simple.
Hit them hard and they will fold.

Always tough playing a wounded team. They have been terrible recently but showed some fight last night against the Wings. Bruins better be ready.
