Welcome back to "Who Is That Player?" Today we go on journey together to learn about that famous Washington Cap,
Beck Malenstyn.
Look at that good Western Canadian boy. That's someone the Canuck-less Canucks could use more of I tell you.
Hailing from the most British of Columbias, this 5th round pick now finds himself in the District of Columbia having played all 22 possible games for the Capitals. Picked 1 selection before Nic Caamano (way to go scouting staff, we could have had Beck Malenstyn, we'll never live this down), the rugged 6'3 winger played parts of 4 seasons for the Hershey Bears before making it fulltime in 2023.
Coming into training camp Malenstyn "took it day by day" and "put his best foot forward" to win a spot. Interestingly, he was a 4th liner in the AHL, relied on to bring physicality to the Bears' Calder Cup run, which apparently is enough to then make the 4th line in the NHL. Known primarily as a PK specialist, offense will be tough to come by and is not particularly expected in the first place.
The secret to success may be having played previously under Washington's current coach Spencer Carbery (Be honest, did you know who the Caps' coach was? You're under oath here, let me remind you.)
Said fellow liney Nic Dowd,
Beck’s a really really good person. I think to make it in the NHL that’s a prerequisite. Not lot of guys figure that out early.
Taking the Dellandrea route, I see. So be a good person, keep your head down, grind away, put up trace amounts of expected goals-for, and perhaps you too will play in the NHL.
This has been, "Who Is That Player?"
Please God, score against us. I'm literally begging you to score, especially if it involves Suter. We can single-handedly get you at least 30 more games in the show by scoring tonight. Bro that's $9,451.21 per game, invest half of that and we can set you up real nice here. C'mon Beck. C'mon.
