Dallas needs to shake up that PP, 11% and 29th in the NHL. Maybe have Hintz run Benn's net front presence and Johnston run Hintz's playmaking/slot role kinda thing.

Pavelski Johnston Hintz
Heiskanen Robertson

Dallas’ power play is net 2.7% and penalty kill is net 97.7%
Perfectly balanced I would say

As bad as the 1st unit looks, part of it may also just be sample size still. They're not 32nd in the league anymore.... now the Stars are up to 31st in PP opportunities after passing the Isles! Teams like LA and Montreal have almost twice the amount of raw time spent with the man advantage. That's a crazy disparity and it's hard to improve or find rhythm when the other team never commits a penalty. :sarcasm:

Welcome back to "Who Is That Player? Today we profile that famous Iowa Wild defenseman, Dakota Mermis.

8477541.png

Mermis, 29, has spent 426 games of his career in the AHL, most recently serving as the Captain of the Iowa Chops Wild. The undrafted American is of course now in the NHL and about to play his 40th game at the top level. Mermis has impressed to such a degree that he surpassed Jon Merrill and the late, the great, Calen Addison on the Wild's depth chart.

It would be a bit like if the Stars suddenly decided Alex Petrovic was an NHL regular.

Ah, but why you ask. As with most things Wild, one could argue the answer can be traced back to truculence. Mermis has tallied a sizeable 409 PIMs in those 426 AHL contests. Along with his on-ice leadership he's won numerous AHL awards for community service involvement in Des Moines. Pretty cool!

Unfortunately the advanced stats have not been kind to our Mer-Man. He grades out in most areas even worse than Jani Hakanpaa which should give you some idea of where the Wild find themselves.

Jacob Middleton has 8 points in 14 games for the Wild as well. His career high is 15

Something weird going on over there. Maroon has 9 in 14 for them as well right now

You missed a highly relevant part to his being in the NHL. Related to Hall of Fame NFLer Randall McDaniel who spent his career with the Minnesota Vikings.

He is out of the top 4 now, he and Middleton had negative synergy in the defensive end. He is good with the puck on his stick and terrible without it, very easy to exploit in the D Zone.

Dakota Mermis and Paul Cotter are two London Knights who I cannot understand how they became NHL players.
