Previews:

Season series: The Vancouver Canucks have defeated the Edmonton Oilers twice this season, and the common theme, as it has been for several seasons, was the domination of Vancouver's top-line twins Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin. They have combined with new linemate Radim Vrbata to generate four goals and nine assists in the two games.

Canucks team scope: Vancouver will be without forward Alexandre Burrows, who Friday was suspended for three games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for a late, illegal check to the head of Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin in a 3-2 overtime win Thursday. In anticipation, Burrows skated as an extra defenseman Friday; Jannik Hansen, who has three goals through 10 games on the fourth line, moved up into Burrows' spot on the second line; and Tom Sestito, who has yet to play this season, was on the fourth line. Expect coach Willie Desjardins to roll all four lines, continuing a trend that has seen every forward average more than 10 minutes per game. "The tempo we want to play needs four lines or we'll be too tired in the third [period]," said forward Brad Richardson, who has three goals in the past two games. "It keeps our energy high."

Oilers team scope: Edmonton ended a five-game losing streak to start the season and put together a four-game winning streak. It came against Eastern Conference opponents and ended as soon as the Oilers faced a Western Conference team again, a 4-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Wednesday. The Oilers are 0-5-1 against the West, with the point coming in a shootout loss to the Canucks after blowing a couple of two-goal leads. "We only play these Eastern teams twice a year and we can take as many points as we can, but we have to find a way to beat the Western ones," forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins told the Edmonton Journal.

The Canucks seem to have our number, wish we could pull this out but don't see it happening. 4-1 Canucks.

Must win tonight. If we have any playoff hopes at all, we have to finish ahead of the Canucks. We've already given them 4 points. We can't afford any more.

I'd honestly rather see Aulie called up and given some games over Hunt.

Why the hell did we even sign the guy if we keep giving Hunt games? Aulie's defensive game isn't exactly spectacular, but neither is Hunt's. At least Aulie can rough up some Canucks instead of Hunt blasting pucks into the fifth row of the stands.

I believe if we lose tonight Eakins goes... it is one thing to go on one short tear in 2.5 years when your job is on the line... but if you can not sustain it in the conference you call home... especially after fellow rebuilding teams like CGY and VAN can regularly tune you... well you are not an NHL caliber coach

L tonight and a probable CBJ win = back to the bottom 4... I do not believe Katz will let that happen

I get nervous every time Hunt is on the ice. Every single year there are at least one or two players on this team that have no place in the NHL, and it is obvious to everyone but the Oilers. He will get sent down pretty soon, and will never touch NHL ice again unless it is in an Oilers jersey.

Yup. Then we'll call up the forward who will never touch NHL ice again unless it is in an Oilers jersey. You know, that guy who is tough actin'...

This is a must win game. Good teams lose games, but good teams don't lose multiple games in a row.

We also can't give Vancouver anymore points.

The oilers need to go out and prove they can play with the west, we need a win here.

It's put up or go home time I feel. I really hope this group can throw some results up.

A thorough thrashing of the Canucks would be good for the city. Blowing them out tonight would be great, but I'm assuming it'll be an anaemic loss where we get roughed up and do nothing about it.

This city would be oiler crazy if the oilers showed they could be a .500 team all year.

Imagine if we finished like 35-35-12. that would be such a huge step forward. That's an out of the playoffs finish at 82 points, but man this city would be going nuts, that building would be rocking nightly.

That wouldn't excite me too much. Anything less then a playoff spot is still a baby step. This team should have already had at least one season of playoff experience by now.

I wish we could move Justin Schultz and Jordon Eberle to the 2nd PP. Put a responsible guy like Fayne and Yakupov on the points of the first PP so that we actually have a snapshot from the point on the PP.

Simply being in the hunt to the end would mean they were 17th to 20th in an 30 team league. That's not exactly shooting for the moon. Don't get me wrong I'd be happy if we were in the hunt to the end but it's sad how low the expectations are. After 8 years of sucking most of us would be satisfied with just missing the playoffs...

Edit: let's go Oilers. Hate the nucks even more than the flames.

Oil are about due for a win vs. the Shmucks. I predict our top line catches fire and Scrivens outplays Miller. 5-2 Oil (Hall x2 Nuge, Ebs, Fayne).

That Hunt-Schultz pairing is a disaster waiting to happen though. Exclusively offensive zone starts and pp minutes for them, I'd say.
