Holloway was winning battles all over the ice. His compete level was high. He provides much needed speed to a slow line up and surely he can make this playoff roster over someone.

This is why the thread was started

He's also doing the small stuff that was entirely lacking from his game during his other runs. He's been getting his stick into lanes and making smart passes in situations he historically tried to skate through people.

I feel like Ryan and Carrick are the guys to swap in and out of the lineup

Holloway has good speed and a high compete level.
The problem is he is very poor defensively. That was quite evident in this recent call up.

The other problem is who sits out to allow Holloway (who doesnt PK) to play?
the guy with 1.84 ga/60 this season is very poor defensively?

LOL...do you even watch the games or do you just look at analytics?
goals is a black and white stat.

hes not nearly as bad defensively as you think.

And you only use your eye test and ignore all analytics and stats that dont stand up to your eye test, which is subject to bias.

You think everyone on the team sucks defensively, it's impressive how they give up so few goals.

Vegas gets far too much credit. They won the cup, but they got to play the 8th seed in the East, and the Oilers had an awful D system that isn't there anymore.

Plus they get a pass for sub par regular season because of their shenanigans. Sure, they are a good team but lets not go nuts there. Their top players are an aging core

Dallas seems like the true obstacle this year.
Even if Vegas aren't 100% the Oilers will have to play like murderers every shift to pound and ground the cap circumventors.

I wonder if McLeod can manage that... but his analytics!

We can make all the mock lineups we want but we all know it’s going to be McDrai-Hyman then a blender in the bottom 9.

The physical battle is a a non-issue. If anything they have to be worried about us.

Whats the total TOI?
391 minutes.

Corey Perry in 27 more minutes of ice with the Oilers has 8 more goals against.

Sure the sample size is small, but its literally all there is to go on.

So far this season, he hasn't been a liability defensively, people are still living off the 2 turnovers he had last year that turned into instant goals against.

This might shock you, but playoff teams dont have 12 forwards dressed that are going to run you out of the rink.

Well...while your at it. Take at look at all the qualifying stats too.

I doubt Holloway is in for game 1 against Vegas.

If Vegas is healthy and the Oilers don't bring an exaggerated physical element to the series, they're getting swept.

The vets likely play before him too for intangibles. Plus they have usually looked way better in the playoffs. Vets often leave a lot in the tank rather than burn out in the season.
That must be why Kane's handling of the puck makes Ceci look like McDavid.

Holloway is one of the Oilers' most physical options up front.
Have to be physical and know how to play NHL, defense first, playoff hockey. Those are the two requirements to play.
We don't need physicality as much as we need consistent defensive play
We sure didn't know how to play defense the last time we faced Vegas. It was one for the ages.
Then Kane shouldn't play.
If we found out today that Kane was injured and a no-go for round one... we probably won't last that long in the postseason.

I don't want to seem overly pessimistic but giving fans like yourself carte blanche isn't going to help the Oilers cause.
