Marcus Bjork is an interesting name on waivers if the Sens want to send Guenette back to Belleville for more development. 6'3" RD that had 11 points in 33 games last season. Only 25 years old. Physical too.

I'd be in. That's a surprising one. He's barely had a cup of coffee and apparently came in strong and tailed off. You'd think they'd like to see if the tailing off was due to the longer NA season before moving on. I'll bet he gets claimed. Maybe Vancouver, they could use some size and will deal Myers at some point if they can.

They don’t have the cap space to sign Pinto and keep the active roster for 20 men roster. They cannot carry extras.

We don't need to trade Joseph if Norris is going on LTIR for a significant enough amount of time.

Joseph is better than whoever would replace him for 775k.

We only need to clear the cap when Norris is ready to be activated. If Norris is out for long enough, there is a reasonable chance that someone else with a large enough cap hit to allow us to activate Norris and dress at least 20 players with Pinto at 2.5M (or less).

If they want to move on from Joseph, next summer is the time to do it. The cap is rumored to go up as high as 88.5M. Joseph will only have 2 years remaining. It should probably cost a 2nd to dump his contract. Or, if he has a bounce back year, they may be able to dump it for future considerations with 1M or less retained.

Why would we want to move Joseph when we actually have room to fit him under the cap?

Trading Joseph to get Pinto signed instantly makes you a better team, without question.

Now without Norris’ health sorted out it’s a different story. If you trade Joseph to sign Pinto and then LTIR Norris you look foolish and make the team worse.

I’m curious to see how this plays out, it sure has been piss poor management

They have the cap flexibility to not trade Joseph next year. The same we had the cap (or in last year's case budget) flexibility to not trade Zaitsev last year. They still chose to trade Zaitsev to use that cap/budget space on something else, Chychryn. They may choose to do the same thing this off-season.

Why is Joseph on the team still???
Because the only teams that could take his cap right now are mostly teams that are rebuilding or tanking, so the price is high. If we wait then some contenders may have injuries and be open to picking him up for cheaper.

Sportchek has every Tkachuk jersey listed as ‘Matthew’… not sure how Brady will feel about him taking the ‘C’ though or how Pierre is pulling off this trade :sarcasm:

I think we just gotta take the L on Joesph and get this Pinto deal over with. They won (opposing GMs). That's the way she goes sometimes. Trade Boucher or the late 1st if need be... the Sens won't be the first team to lose that kind of asset to save their cap/season.

Sign Bailey as his replacement - it sucks to lose Joes speed. but Bailey really does bring a lot of tools himself. Clearly hes a better offensive player. And Having shooters like Kubalik and Smejkal in the bottom 6 with Bailey able to dish isn't a horrible idea at all.

And then keep Greig and/or Jarventie up until they prove they can't handle it or Norris returns.

We are now 62k from the cap ceiling.

My guess is that we place Norris on LTIR now that we're within 62k of the cap ceiling, and we make a deal that sees Joseph swapped for a veteran centre.

Something like Joseph+Brannstrom+Asset for Pageau (800k retained), possibly with a depth defender going to Ottawa.

That would be cap neutral for both sides. Both sides would benefit with a change of scenery. The Islanders would free up cap 1.2M in cap long term when comparing Joseph to Pageau. You could also argue that in the next 2 years, Joseph might be the more effective player due to Pageau's age and the type of mileage his play style has put on his body.

It would be a bad move for Ottawa long-term, but there won't be many options to add a veteran middle-6 C. If Norris is placed on LTIR, he will be out at least a month, and he may not be very effective when he first returns. The Senators cannot go with Grieg/Jarventie as the 2/3Cs, Even when Pinto is back, it just doesn't work.

They could go after someone like Laughton, but that will cost major assets, which the Senators do not have to spare.

My guess is however we resolve the cap issue, it won't involve Brannstrom

I think the deal will be something around Joseph + a 2nd rounder + the eventual firing of Dorion for cap space to sign Pinto

Quick question: According to what I read cap space is not accrued when players are on LTIR. However, when that player comes back would his cap hit not be prorated, therefore offering more space for the remainder of the year?

Maybe, I am off base. Not sure if better to start the season with Norris on LTIR IF it can help fit Pinto or Norris ready and still no Pinto.
