So do we trade him now or wait for the trade deadline and hope some team gets desperate for a PP specialist who can't play defense?

What fun is watching a leaf game without yelling NOOO FRANSON!!!!!

I hope he plays as the #5/PP1. That's where he had success in his year with Fraser. I think Polak/Franson might turn things around for him.

Yikes. Didn't see this coming. Not sure why Franson would want to come back after being thrown under the bus in the presser, not sure why the Leafs would want him back based on the info in the presser, not sure why he gets 3.3 mil as if he was a top 4, but I am sure that no other team would offer him that money or else Franson would have gone there.. Bad relationship, bad playing, bad management. Fail.

It's fine. There's no one better on the market right now and it's only one year. I like him better than most around here, and feel he can be asset if used in the right situations. He's also just everyone's scapegoat on defense right now .

That is a tolerable contract ... Very happy they're only going with a one year deal

Still - I hope he's traded .. Seems like a trade-friendly contract

Meh. Its not like the salary is preventing us from doing anything. Gives us 6 NHL defencemen to start the year while still leaving a chance for Marlie or two to play a bunch when injuries come. If they push him out or the Leafs aren't doing well he could be traded at the deadline for a team in need of some PP help.

Guy was a beast in the series against Boston. I really think he can have a bounce back year. Try to avoid giving him top 4 minutes tho

After how the team played as a whole last year he deserves another chance to see if he can rebound and be the player he was 2 years ago. I am in the minority who thinks he can still be an effective 2nd pairing guy.

That's like half a million for every short handed goals he was on for last year. Nonis is a Wizard

He was an RFA... not a UFA.

a management group that awards offensive stats, not sure why anyone is surprised

They've got mobility down the left so having everyone on their natural sides will be great

now just need Cs that can win faceoffs!

Good tank move.

Eichel will approve.

Like I've been saying in the arbitration thread - sometimes i think people are so fast to go "Leafs Nation needs a scapegoat."

I will give Franson all the benefit of the doubt. Maybe a better defensive system, being in training camp will help him tremendously. But that's not gonna help Franson's mobility any. He's a very slow player on a very fast team. So, the minute he gets caught pinching, or cheating, and the other guy is gone (especially if this is the powerplay so the other guy is most likely Dion), we're in trouble because neither of them can get back in time most of the time.

and we're going to now bank on the hope that we CAN trade him. (but it's Nonis so i'm not going to hold my breath on this one).

Well... All the people who *****ed about letting Kule, CMac, etc go for no value should be happy we never did the same with Franson.

He would get around that in arbitration. His value of being worth a late 1st is maintained.
