This story has been updated by a new information thanks our followers on Twitter.
Semyon Varlamov participated in one of the best goalie camps for the NHL players in Switzerland over the last couple of years. This tournament is run by Francois Allaire, the Colorado Avalanche goalie coach. Sadly, Varlamov will not be there this year.
Eurolanche's source, a senior official who is close to the camp and would like to have Varlamov in Europe as every year, told us there may be a legal problems for Varlamov to leave US teritorry. As is known, he was arrested in 2013 and his girlfriend accused him of a domestic violence. When some case is under investigation, US court could forbid a person, especially a person of other nationality to leave USA. Otherwise, he would lose his work visa.
But some Avalanche fans sent us pictures of Varlamov being in Russia one month ago. Does this whole new information mean he could travel outside USA in the recent past, but something has changed in his case at the court yet and now he has to stay there for some time?
After publishing this news, our followers on Twitter offered other explanation. Varly has some injury problems and that is the reason why he could travel to Russia in the past but the team would not let him attend a goalie camp. But why our reliable source told us the other explanation above?
For now, it remains kind of mystery that we can't verify at the present. A fact is Varlamov will miss this camp for the first time. At the other side, Eurolanche supports Varlamov and it has never had an intention to damage his name.
As we reported, Varlamov had the same problem in May 2015, when he didn’t join Team Russia for the World Championship in Czech Republic. He was scheduled to be a number one goalie in the net, but didn’t join a team and stay in Denver. Some people believed it was just an excuse of Team Russia and a real reason was his "failure" at the Olympics in Sochi.
A goalie camp in a town of Verbier in Switzerland will include some Avalanche hockey. Reto Berra and Calvin Pickard will be training there. The camp will last almost full next week. Eurolanche’s correspondent will visit it and try to interview both Avs goalies.
