If you've missed the "rules", the original thread can be found here.

In this poll - vote for one forward AND one defenseman = two votes in total

NOTE: In a couple of posts below, you'll find links to the stats (Eliteprospects) of each player in the polls. Those currently in the mix are highlighted in jade colors. It might be helpful for anyone who doesn't remember some of these players, or who wants to refresh their memory.

Bonino - clinched a playoff series with an OT goal.
Moen - Cup champ. Blindly KO'd Shea Weber.

Give me Moen. And Olausson. One of the few guys in franchise history that could QB a PP effectively.

Havelid was a really good top 4 guy for a few years for us. Was outstanding in 02-03 and led all blue liners in points while being really good defensively. I also like Olausson - he was a great PP QB but wasn’t as well rounded.

For the forward I went Moen. Without his performance the 06-07 playoffs he doesn’t get my vote but that was a pretty important year in franchise history.

I think Vatanen is a bit underrated. Like Lydman played for two and a half season for Anaheim and I would say only the first season was truly great year for him. 2nd was fine and 3rd was ruined by injury and he retired due to it. I would pick him over Manson at this point. Probably challenges Carney as well who I don't remember that well to be honest though.

Problem with Vatanen to me is that he only really played well on the third pairing here. He was great alongside Stoner and on special teams for a couple of years but by the time he had moved up into a top 4 role his shoulder was f***ed and he really struggled.

The likes of Havelid, Manson Carney, Olausson etc have all played and somewhat excelled in top pairing minutes. Vatanen unfortunately was so beat up when he was used in that role that he wasn’t effective taking tougher matchups.

I get your point but it’s worth noting that He was mostly only on the 3rd pair because he was so good at playing with guys like Allen and Stoner. He wasn’t actually the 5th or 6th best dman on any of those teams. He was comfortably a better player than Lovejoy and Manson didn’t really pass him until the injuries as you noted. Despres was maybe better for a 20 game stretch that one season but it’s debatable.

overall I’d say he was the clear #4 for most of his time in Anaheim behind Fowler Beauchemin and Lindholm
