I've said it before, but even with post season the 1970-71 season is the best the team has had.

it was a dominance the league hasnt seen before or since.

Hart, Norris, Ross, Rocket, Lindsay winners

399 GF...108 more than 2nd place
+192 goal differential
57-14-7, 121 points
.776 pt%

Top 4 scorers in the league, and 6 of the top 8
3 of the top 4 goal scorers in the league
6 of the top 7 in assists in the league
11 of the top 13 in +/-

Espo had 76 goals...those 76 points alone would've been good for 9th in the league in scoring

Orr's 102 assists alone would've made him the 5th in scoring

Thats clearly the best regular season the team has had, no question on that.

I just have a hard time calling it the best season in franchise history, when we include the post-season. The goal is to win the Stanley Cup, not to just rack up wins and set records. So a season that ends in a Stanley Cup needs to be seen as better than one that doesn't IMO.

Totally agree. Regular season stats don't mean a thing if the Cup doesn't come with it. Does anybody care that the Golden State Warriors had the best single season record in NBA history in 2016?

Didn't think so....

Besides, if memory serves, that 71-72 team had just about the same number of total points that the 70-71 team did. Not sure of the exact totals but I know they were within 5 points of each other.

They also had Reggie Leach, Ivan Boldirev, and Terry O'Reilly on the roster all of whom hadn't come into their own yet. (O'Reilly only appeared in one game that year)

I just want to say this is the season I saw my first game. I was hooked and in love with Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito. The rest is history. They were playing the Leafs and even though I live in Leafland I chose the Bruins, pretty smart I would say.
