Hated the pick but gave him a chance after he was drafted. Juolevi was done as a prospect in my eyes after his D+1 season. Flatlining or regressing in juniors is always a massive red flag.

Just a devastating unnecessary error.

I was really happy for Schneider when he got that last NHL game/win a couple seasons back after battling his way back from his hip issues in the AHL for a couple years. Most guys who had earned what he earned would have packed it in years ago rather than try to ride buses to get back to the NHL.

One of the unluckiest careers in NHL history, though. He was utterly elite and Vezina-calibre consistently from 2010-2016 but spent that entire time behind Luongo/platooning Brodeur/stuck on a terrible Devils team. If you put his prime in a different situation, he could have won multiple Vezinas and a Cup.

NYR - Montoya, EDM Dubnyk, STL Schwartz were the 3 goalies taken before Schneider. Aside from EDM which is a true goalie graveyard in terms of development, Cory would have had a similar situation being behind Lundqvist, who is 4 years older, so was 22 when Cory got drafted and 25 by the time Cory turned pro. Would have been traded out of NYR.

Schwartz, never did much in the NHL. STL, over the years from say 2009 (after Cory's first 2 pro years) were:
Chris Mason/Conklin
Halak/Conklin
Halak/Elliott/Bishop
Elliott/Halak/Allen
Halak/Elliott

Add in Miller/Brodeur for a year each befroe really Allen got the job.

So, he would have been the starter in STL most likely from around 2010 or 2011 onwards.

Stupid trade at the time and we all knew it. Nick Bonino was far superior in a 3C role...Trade was compounded by Benning giving an absurd contract.

Bonino was basically the centre version of Pearson - slow, not flashy, yet effective. And for some reason Benning loved Pearson but hated Bonino, and shipped him off for a toolsy type that had zero brains in the offensive zone.

And that's a wrap for Sutter.
Kind of ironic that Sutter's final game in an NHL uniform as at Rogers Arena.

From all reports a class act; popular in the dressing-room and in the community; but his career cut short by long COVID symptoms.

Not really his fault that Jethro bet the farm in acquiring him from the Pens; and gave him as ridiculous extension. Unfortunately a lot of Canuck fans couldn't get past what he was being paid.

But wish Brandon well in retirement. He' s the kind of guy who should stay in the game and could make a real contribution as a coach or in a front office.

Only thing I’ll remember about Sutter is he turned into Pavel Bure the exact second we’re eliminated from the playoffs that year

He had like 12 points in the final 10 games when we were trying to tank.
