With a new hybrid called the Maverick, their first compact pickup since the Ranger ended its run in 2012.

Heck they have a model that is front wheel drive, almost unheard of for pickups. Like the article says this is less about a work capable pickup.

I'm amazed at how many people drop big money into work-capable pickups just so they can carry a few bags of mulch home from Sam's Club. Living in a suburban area, easily 3/4ths of the pickups I see don't have any indication that they've ever been used for their "intended" purpose.

Agreed. My friend friend with 3 kids bought a new Silverado just to sit in traffic on his daily commute. I tried to talk him out of it...

What is the current Ranger considered now, mid-sized pickup?
Yes

It was brought back to compete with the Tacoma and the Canyon/Colorado

Does this mean the Ranger is Goose now?
No

but I think that they should have saved the Ranger name for this new smaller truck and used a different name for the midsize pickup that came out a few years back

You are going to laugh (well hopefully) but I am one of those guys.

One of my primary reasons was , I am really tall. I have trouble getting in to and fitting in cars. Pickups are a perfect height.
The bang for the bang was much better than an SUV and for those once a year moments when you need a truck , I have one.
I also do camp 2-3x a year so a pickup is perfect for firewood and gear.

Well, then technically you're not "wasting" a pickup truck if it's by far the most accessible vehicle for you.

If you don't mind my asking, how tall approximately are you?

6'4, but I have the legs of someone who is 6'8. I am very small torso'd

Squatting down to fit in a car is hard AF for me and after back surgery my doc actually said a vehicle that was higher off the ground was "medically necessary"

Sorry to hear about your back problems, I have back problems of my own (though yours are worse.) I'm the opposite type of build; I'm 6'0'' but have a longer torso and shorter legs.

Lt. Dan has no legs he lost them in Vietnam!

Any different configurations? That's a tiny ass bed with a pretty decent sized cab. I would think some prefer to switch the use of space.

Sharp looking truck though

Kind of reminds me more of those old Explorer Sport Tracs than a Ranger. A lot of trucks are more targeted to the suburb dad that needs a bigger cabin than a bed, even gas mileage is preferred over bed for some. That's why a lot of the smaller trucks are the same or in some cases more than the full size trucks.

It has a 4.5 foot bed. I think my trailer I tow behind my lawn tractor can hold more than that. Pass. Tired of these useless microbed pickup trucks.
