Being guaranteed to draft Lafreniere tips this in favor of wanting 1OA.

Otherwise, I'd rather win the play-in round than have a 1/8 chance at drafting Lafreniere.

The difference between picking 1st and 23rd is massive. As much as I want to win, if it was 100% guaranteed that we’re getting Lafreniere, I’ll take the loss. Losing for a 12.5% chance is a horrible idea though.

I'd go for short term pain in favor of long term gain.

If the Pens were GUARANTEED to get 1st overall, then I'd sacrifice this season in order to land Lafreniere since I think that would give the Pens a better chance next season and beyond.
