Trying to get some discussion going besides the Schenn contract. With that being said, who would you have on the Flyers All-Time Team? I'm sure this thread has been done before but they are always fun, so why not give it another go?

Only stipulation is minimum of 100 games played for the organization and wasn't past their prime during their only stint with the team (so guys like Darryl Sittler and Paul Coffey should be left off). Players also have to be slotted into a position they have actually played during their career as a Flyer.

Here's my all time Bullies squad

Line 1: Reggie Leach - Bobby Clarke - Bill Barber
Line 2: John LeClair - Eric Lindros - Mark Recchi
Line 3: Rick MacLeish - Rod Brind'Amour - Tim Kerr
Line 4: Brian Propp - Dave Poulin - Claude Giroux

Just Missed the Cut: Simon Gagne, Peter Forsberg, Rick Tocchet

Defense 1: Mark Howe - Eric Desjardins
Defense 2: Kimmo Timonen - Jimmy Watson
Defense 3: Chris Pronger - Brad McCrimmon

Just Missed the Cut: Tom Bladon, Behn Wilson, Joe Watson

Goalie 1: Bernie Parent
Goalie 2: Ron Hextall
Goalie 3: Pelle Lindbergh

Coach: Fred Shero
Assistant Coach 1: Mike Keenan
Assistant Coach 2: Pat Quinn

I'm surprised at the Propp omission (to be fair we are stacked on LW) and the Ghost selection. He will be moving up my list in short time though no doubt.

So to comment on my awesome chart, the only 2 player's with multiple seasons above Ghost's PPG in franchise history are Mark Howe and Garry Galley. Galley had a 3 year peak with us, the 2 monster years and the lockout year. Aside from that he is a consistent 20-30 point defensemen before and after his tenure with the Flyers which is weird. Mark Howe is Mark Howe.

Galley, Howe and Desjardins are the only players above Ghost's PPG mark that had multiple seasons in their careers above that mark. Every other player listed above him in PPG, it was also their highest scoring year. Desjardins season above his is only outmatched by one season with Montreal.

The only other defensemen with his Career Best and Rookie years being the same is Janne Niinimaa who matched his Rookie year later in his career once.

Taking away duplicates only 12 players have had more points in a single season by a defensemen. Howe, Galley, Wilson, Desjardins, Streit, Pronger, Bladon, McCrimmon, Dailey, Racine, McGillis, Duchesne.

I know you said the threshold was 100 games, but I can't put 150 games of Pronger above 500 of some others on a franchise list regardless of how much I may have loved Pronger for his entire career. That's almost a full season less than Mark Streit has played in a Flyers uniform.

Propp - Lindros - Giroux
Leclair - MacLeish - Kerr
Gagne - Poulin - Tocchet

Howe - Desjardins
Timonen - Watson

I probably should have found room for ~700 games of Brind'Amour but the incredible overrating for years and years drove me nuts. I'm not rational on the subject.

Understandable. For me, the fact that he led us on such an amazing run in 2010 and had such a massive impact in his time here was enough for me.

I have a tough time believing Mason is in the top 3 goalies in Flyers history.

You aware of the Flyers history of goaltending right? It's not like he's going up against a lot of heavy hitters.

You have Parent, Hextall, & Lindbergh & that's basically it. The last two had pretty short stints (for different reasons, Hextall injuries & Lindbergh death) of playing at a higher level. Same with Parent but his peak was one of the best in NHL history.

3 goalies have played 180 or more games in a Flyers uniform. 2 have played 216 or more. Mason is 6th at 173. He'll end the year at either 3rd or 4th.

Lindbergh only had one year with more than 40 GP.

I have a tough time believing Mason is in the top 3 goalies in Flyers history.

As things stand it is hard to say he is worse than 4th all-time based on his resume as a Flyer so far!

Cechmanek had 3 very good regular seasons, but behind a team that played very tight D. Played less games as a Flyer with close to identical sv% to Mason.
Froese had 1 good season.
Favell was solid but based against peers not as good as Mason in his stint.
Peters had 2 solid seasons, 1 poor and 2 as backup to end career.
Stephenson had 1 good season as starter, a few years as solid backup.
Boucher had a great rookie year... but every other season was average to poor.
Biron had 2 solid years... but his best year was pretty much a similar standard as Mason's worst in O&B!
Niittymaki had 3 years as middling goalie, 2/3 as backup... the rest below NHL average.
Roussel had 1 year where he held his own as an NHL starter.
Vanbiesbrouck had one below average year, one decent year.
Esche had a decent year behind a mega team... and was poor outside that.

After them we are on to Wregget, Snow, Bobrovsky etc!

Parent, Hextall & Lindbergh are the only guys you can put ahead of him for sure... and assuming Mason keeps playing as well as he has so far in O&B next season there is for sure an argument for him over Lindbergh in my mind.

And let's not forget Robbie Moore, who, in 1978-79 went 3-0 with two shutouts...and then never played in the NHL again except for one game four years later (a loss) with the Washington Capitals and then vanished forever.

On another note, I think it would be fun to compile an all-time Flyers team based on every player who was a member of the organIzation but taking their peaks years as qualifiers, even if those years were not in the O&B. Coffey, Hawerchuk, Sittler...Kurri?

I don't think Kurri could be considered no matter what standards we set... He was merely a ship that passed in the night. :naughty:
