This deal isn't as bad as some other possible options/prices, but I'm not sold on Ellis as a 1st pairing guy, at least not for very long. Small and frequently injured and 6 years left at over $6M is a contract we could come to hate as he declines. Who gets bought out first, Ellis or Hayes?
I also suspect Chuckles already has a deal in play to trade the first pick to Seattle as a sweetener to take Jake's contract.
Fletcher knows he has to get them deep in the playoffs this year or he's gone, so I don't really blame him for going for broke. That's what happens in poorly-run organizations.
I really don't like giving up on Patrick and Myers, two of my favourite players, but it could have been Konecny and York, so this is a lesser evil.
Kelly McCrimmon knows Patrick, so I expect him to blossom in the desert now that he's finally healthy. Like Patrick, Myers just needs the guidance of a competent coaching staff, something neither has had in their pro careers. Myers will do well in Nashville.
