The team announced the training camp schedule today.

https://www.nhl.com/flyers/news/fly...september-15--philadelphia-flyers/c-290900918

And provided an updated roster. Laberge now weighs 182, up from 167 last year. Lamarche must have been re-signed to an AHL contract because he's one of the 17 defensemen.

Apparently Giroux is up to 184 compared to 178 last year. Focused on strength, speed, and quickness in the summer and Jake says he looks fast.

I can just never take the listings seriously. They seem completely hit and miss - especially for guys who are already NHLers.

Like Raffl at 6'0. He is closer to 6'2 than 6'0.

At the Olympics he was measured at 187cm and 205lbs.

And Provorov was 6'1 and 201lbs at the combine - yet listed at 6'0 and 203lbs there...

And Sanheim is listed at 6'4 in the AHL!

I assumed that these numbers came from Giroux himself since the article took a lot from an interview with him. But now that I realize it was a Carchidi article... I'm a ****ing idiot for expecting any accuracy.

I am waiting to hear how Jake looks. Hopefully stayed away from his mom's cooking. Fat Jake is no good.

Giroux has always been listed at 185 lbs, so unless he lost weight last year after the surgery, not sure what this means.
I thought Jake was in shape last year, he just looked lost, trying to do it all himself and skating around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Going to be a lot of good competition for spots this year

Barring anything extreme happening, am I the only one who thinks Hexy knows damn well approximately what the roster will look like? I don't really buy that a few practices and exhibition games will truly determine the roster. He knows these kids and what they can do. As long as each one shows up in shape and plays like themselves, the roster is pretty well set in his mind. He knows overanalyzing preseason minutiae isn't the way to go.

I truly believe unless one of the kids falls on there face AMac will be sent packing to Allentown. Myers as well to gain pro experience.

FTW!

Sanheim - Gudas

I so hope you are right, Stiz, and Hexy does seem like the type to have thought this through to conclusion a long time ago. This should be the best season for us to watch in a very long time - no pressure to win anything in particular and plenty of our future pieces on display, ripening before our eyes. The thought of it makes me ripe in my special place :yo:

I don't think Hextall is completely closed to the idea......but I'm expecting the worst tbh.

We know he overvalues veteran leadership, and he overvalues AHL development, especially as it pertains to the high quality development going on down in Allentown. Would he go into next season with 1 veteran (all of 27 years old), a player entering his 3rd year (who they view as a 3rd pair PP specialist), a player entering his 2nd year, and 3 rookies, albeit AHL seasoned ones?

It all comes down to how they view MacDonald. I'm still skeptical they don't think he had a positive, resurgent year last year. Hextall is going to take the player his coach used as a top pair defenseman and just flat out demote him? I think sending Barf down is more likely, even in this dream scenario. Hextall was vocal about hating doing it the first time too. But I do think they look at him as a veteran minutes eater who can insulate the youth. And the Provorov-MacDonald pair was ****ing awesome, right?! I know if it were me, I'd take advantage of MacDonald's public perception right now and eat whatever and trade him. Maybe they can't. Maybe they won't.

But he doesn't.

Provorov was a slam dunk, but the fact he kept Konency last year should tell you those decisions aren't set in stone.

The fact he sent Laughton down though he was 2 years older and a lot bigger and had solid offensive skills says Hextall knows exactly what he wants from players.

Morin needed time, Sanheim needed to learn how to play defense, Hagg needed to raise his game - they weren't exiled to LHV, they just weren't ready. They all had solid years, signalling they used the year in Lehigh as a chance to grow. Same with Laughton, who was sent down to learn to play defense and from all reports worked hard and improved.

Hextall would move MacDonald in a heartbeat, probably eat half his salary, but he won't give up assets to do so, rather, he probably wants to get a mid-round pick back in return and figures he can wait for an injury or two for another GM to get desperate. The salary is a sunk cost, but the opportunity cost to garner a draft pick is real, I mean if you can get a return on Vinnie and Rinaldo, . . .

It seems like some of the numbers get updated, but for guys like Raffl they start off inaccurate and never change. If you look at Raffl next to Weise, he's not two inches shorter.

Yeh, just look at him next to 5'11 G and 6'0 Bellemare:

And every picture of him and Schenn he looks the same size or bigger.

He is also best buds with 6'1 Grabner - loads of photos together off ice etc - and he is clearly the taller, bigger man, by ~2-3 cm.

So what's the deal with this Kosorenkov guy? I remember the world famous Tomas Hyka debacle but don't remember the specifics. We have to sign him during camp or we have to sign him to a pro deal or something like that or he goes back to the draft next season?

Need to sign him before the Q season begins again. Basically same situation as Myers, except Kosorenkov is a guy who was passed over in 2016 and 2017. He should statistically/on paper been picked at some point both years,

I imagine they will unless he is awful at camp. He has good pedigree, a good skill-set and is likely to be at the WJC for Russia this winter.

If we can get Couturier standing next to Sanheim we should be able to tell if Sanheim is really 6'3" instead of 6'4".

That could just be a sloppy typo, like Lindblom & Rubtsov having a blank space under contract.

Is it wrong to think their new practice jerseys are really cool looking?

I liked it at first glance, too, then I remembered the Penguins have a jersey with a similar concept. Took off the shine.

Also, I hate how my first reaction to the pic of Jak's beard is that he's trying to hide a double chin.
