Now I'm sure everyone will be very happy it is over, but are you planning on doing anything that will show the league that this is complete BS or will you go back to business as usual and start pumping money back to them?

For season ticket fans, you've already invested in tickets, but will you not buy any concessions for your first 10 games or buy no gear? Will non ticket holders decide not to buy gear or the 5-10 tickets you normally get?

I'd certainly love to see no one show up at the first game of all the NHL teams, but that is a pipe dream and I know I'll still try and get Penguins tickets when the Flyers are in town so I can rock the Orange and Black here, but maybe if there is a shortened season this year I won't even attempt to get those tickets.

I won't base my entertainment decisions on what a bunch of athletes and owners do.

I enjoy hockey qua hockey-- which is bigger then the players and the owners.

I'll watch pro, junior, etc, just like always, especially enjoying my new MEGA SURROUND THEATER OF WIN I got for Christmas.

...... but truth be told, I'll always harbor a resentment, I won't forget, trust me, that both players and owners committed the same sin: They renegged on the social contracts kept with the communities and economies that support them. The very communities that supported them they turned their back on so they could line their own pockets with more money that comes from communities that pay taxes to build them stadiums.

Two compliance buy outs is huge. Bryz and Pronger would be off our books.

I don't see why it would be any problem because they will be getting full value for the buyout. I don't think it is like the buyout the teams get at the end of the year. The player gets full value and it doesn't count against our cap.

If they do buyout Bryz and Pronger, that clears up over 10 million in cap space. We would have around 13 million to work with to resign Kimmo if we choose to and Wellwood, Rinaldo, and a third line winger.

We wouldn't be in that bad a spot for next year.

Yeah..sounds like it if true. That 60M cap is pretty tight for Holmgren to work with considering our D corps needing some legit additions.

Well that's next year also. I don't think Leighton is back next year to be our back up unless he has some kind of amazing season (he just isn't capable of that). Their will be other goalies available next year, just can't sign them to the crazy Bryz contract.

I hate this from a Flyers perspective. We'll lose at least one significant peace, more likely two. Hopefully Homer can at least make a few trades instead of buying them out and not get anything in return. There goes any shot at the cup for quite some time.


Homer should target guys like Brandon Gormley. Phoenix might like the idea of Briere with a high caphit but low actual salary or a guy like Read, who'd be a good fit for Dave Tippet. We need some cost-controlled talent at the back-end. Also Grossmann's contract suddenly becomes rather bad.

Briere isn't really showing up in the regular season and only does while in the playoffs. For his caphit, we need him all the time..

Bryz isn't really a viable option. As others said, you can hope another goalie gets bought out and try to sign them. But there's so many teams trying to get goalies that it's not really a good time to bet on the market

The inability to buy out an injured player means that Drury's full $7.05 million charge will remain on the Blueshirts' summer cap, which can exceed the 2011-12 season cap by 10 percent. Under terms of the CBA, the captain will have to report to training camp in September for the team physical. If Drury fails, as would be expected, he would qualify for a long-term injury (LTI) exemption when the season begins and the roster is set.
But in order to gain the full value of the $7.05 million exemption, the Rangers would have to go that far over the cap. In other words, if the cap is $62.5 million (an estimation before it is officially established by June 30), the team would have to get to $69.5 million (including Drury) before the season-opener in Stockholm to reap the full LTI benefit.

Like Meltzer said....no matter what this next CBA is not going to be good for the Flyers. Holmgren is going to have to be really savy...which scares me.
