The Calgary Flames are pleased to announce that they've added young right winger David Pastrnak to their roster, in a trade with the San Jose Sharks. In exchange, the Flames have sent Alex Killorn, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Jimmy Vesey, and prospect Filip Hronek to the west coast of California.

The Flames would like to thank Alex Killorn, first and foremost. Drafted in the 3rd round, 79th overall in 2007, Killorn was one of the last of five players from that era on the Flames roster.

Oliver Bjorkstrand was drafted 55th overall in 2013, and Jimmy Vesey, drafted 194th overall in 2011, were just starting out their Flames careers, while Filip Hronek came to the Flames in the Jake Gardiner trade.

"We're super excited about adding Pastrnak to our line-up, for this upcoming season, where our goal is to make the playoffs, and for the future, where he joins a stable of young players from the same generation who can be core assets for a decade," said AGM Jamie Lundmark. "We've made no secret of the need for a top-line right winger." Lundmark conceded that it was hard to trade Killorn and the prospects. "We really believe in those players and it was a hard deal, one which caused a lot of anguish within the organization. But, in the end, you have to give to get. This re-balances our lineup in a way we needed."

Lundmark was unconcerned heading into free agency with Pastrnak not signed. "We're going to make him a hefty, worthy offer to keep his rights, we're going to keep him for the long term and we have the cap space to pay him very, very well. If any other GM's come with offer sheets, that just helps our cause. In fact, we don't expect to see any."

Heading into next season, Lundmark expects Pastrnak to plug into the top line. Doug Weight gave some hints about his thinking on line combos. "We've got a lot of centers, more than we need, so some will have to slide over to the wing to help us out."

Larkin - Getzlaf - Pastrnak
Lee - Barzal - Steen
Backlund - Faksa - Skinner
Watson - Anisimov - Lappin

Giordano - Ekholm
Klingberg - Savard
de Haan - Sekera

Bishop
Reimer

Lundmark didn't rule out making more changes, saying the team was chasing several young defensemen and looking into the option of upgrading in goal.
