Let me know when NHL goes 2 on 2. But good work, either way.

Definitely would've been better to make this a true 3v3 poll but the argument in the other thread was McDavid/Draisaitl were the best 3v3 duo in the NHL so I didn't want to influence the results at all.

Calgary
It's Brodie and Gio that are the difference makers for Calgary's overtime strategy.

McDavid just stays out there for 4 minutes until he gets the puck and does it all himself.

McDavid is the better player 5v5 no question, but I don't think there's a better player 3v3 than Gaudreau.

The stats while small point pretty conclusively to Calgary here.

But of course McDavid will win, because people haven't seen Calgary play 3 on 3 and they know McDavid is the best player in the league.

Where are the stats from? Sports net showed them on a broadcast about a month ago. I tend to trust them more than an unsourced post on the internet.

You must've misread their chart in that case.

Since 3on3 OT was implemented, Draisaitl ranks tied for 3rd in points while McDavid ranks tied for 11th in points, whereas Gaudreau ranks first and Monahan ranks tied for 6th.

Where are the stats from though? I don’t really trust anything that’s not linked. The broadcast may have been referencing from 2016/17 on when Draisaitl and Mcdavid started playing together. I’d have to double check that.

At the bottom of the OP, I stated all stats are from Corsica, who are one of the most reliable sites out there.

If you go by what you said, you're correct, as Draisaitl leads in that timeframe with 11 points and McDavid is tied for 2nd with 10, while Gaudreau (10) and Monahan (9) are a combined 2 points back but have played a combined 36 less minuted of 3v3 hockey.

Thanks.

I’d take the Oilers guys who are #1 and #2 since being put together. They haven’t had the luxury of having multiple very good offensive defensemen to compliment them either. Sekera was the best guy we had 3 on 3 but has been injured for basically two years.

But like I said, Gaudreau and Monahan are a combined 2 points back in that time frame and have played 36 minutes less than the Oilers duo while having much better metrics and overall numbers then the rest of the entire league.

However, you do raise a good point about McDavid/Draisaitl not having as good a D-partner as Gaudreau/Monahan which definitely helps in the Flames favor

I don’t really see the shot metrics as being very valuable 3 on 3 because of sheer volume of high danger chances in a very small periods of time. Drai and Mcdavid have often won the game of their very first rush.

This is sort of true. Drai is #1 in OT points in the last 3 years with 11 and McDavid is tied for second with 10. However it should be noted that Gaudreau and Monahan are #1 and #2 in points per 60 at 3v3, while McDavid and Drai are #5 and #10 in the last three years.

I'll give that Gio is good, but under Gulutzan, Gaudreau/Monahan usually played with Brodie.
